What is meant by troll (on the internet)? I looked it up on Wikipedia and it said that's it is someone who tries to be inflammatory. But on AB, people are using it differently.

I think the use of the term here fits the internet version very well. The term comes from the 'fishing' term of throwing out your nets out of your boat and troll for fish, hoping to make a good catch. WHen it was applied to the internet, it was said that certain people, trolls, would say certain things, make inflammatory remarks or posts, do certain behaviors hoping to 'catch' people by making them react in like manner, flame each other and just all around cause a huge commotion. That's what they do here. They come by and make inflammatory questions and answers, they downrate people for some unknown reason, again, searching for that negative reaction. Some do so just my going around and DRing people on purpose, just to get a reaction. Same as the plain variety of internet troll.

there are people on here who don't agree with an answer and then will systematically DR you every time they see your name.. they never leave a comment telling you why. And it may be for something as simple as answering what is 2+2... I just ignore them..I find it fascinating though that they think that their DR really counts toward something. The points on here are of no real value. Perhaps they are just unhappy people that nobody listens to them in real life.
