I watched Survivorman on the Science channel and he was very scared of a certain variety of Amazon ant - he stated that 3 or 4 bites of this particular ant could knock down a full grown man. He ended up chopping in half with his machete. So I say yes!

Absolutely YES. Driver ants have been known to completely wipe out all edible food in a given area, and that means all life in that area. Imagine, several thousand square kilometers of once fertile land made totally barren, not a single leaf or sprout, animal skeletons picked clean, and yes, even human skeletons. If a person is alert enough, they should be able to out run the ants by just going in one constant direction at a slow jog that lasts a few days, but the ants will not stop while they live, and could catch a person in their sleep, or catch some one that is not paying total attention, the ants just spread out in a growing circle that eventually reaches several hundred kilometers radius, and the ants will kill and eat everything, eventually even each other, and then it stops, untill the next cycle. __________ If ants interest you, check out an old sci-fi movie called, "Phase Four" ...
