Ok, here's the deal with this question (which is a classic in Buddhist philosophy, btw). The question hinges on the problem of ambiguity in the word "exist". If you mean... does it have the characteristics of an "object", with boundaries, a finite lifetime, a composition, and relationships, then no, it doesn't exist. If you mean by "exist" that impermanence refers to a specific observable phenomenon, then again the answer is no: you won't find an "impermanence event" occurring. If you mean by "exist" that specific phenomena can be classified abstractly as examples of impermanence, then the answer is a resounding "yes"... life if chock full of such examples. The nice thing about this question is that it makes the mind spin in circles rather rapidly, as we try to "grasp" what it could mean to say that impermanence exists. That's good, because it demonstrates the shortcomings of concepts -- the stuff of grasping. It's not a bad koan, actually... to try to blow some of the stickiness off of our grasping hands.

Yes. A word does not have to partake of the properties of the thing it describes. "Red" can be printed in black. "French" is in English. Unreadable can be read. And the word, and the concept, of impermanence can be permanent. The map is not the thing, the npointer is not the place.
