After the second bomb was dropped. Hiroshima was bombed on August 6, then Nagasaki on August 9. Japan finally surrendered on August 15.

They were at the point of surrender and in talks with the Americans about the surrender conditions BEFORE thefirst bomb was dropped. The surrender conditions were not finalised until AFTER the 2nd bomb was dropped. This is the reason why many historians believe the bombs were not to criple Japan, but to scare the Russians.
