  • Probably because they wear them after getting married in the Temple. Let me back up just a bit. If a male goes on a mission, he then gets to start wearing the garments.   • They are meant to remind us of covenants that we make in the temple and, despite what another person said, one does not have to get married or serve a mission before they start waring them.
  • They are called temple garments because we are first clothed with them in the temple. We acquire our first pair in an ordinance known as the "Washing and Anointing" - the significance of the temple garment is explained in the Endowment ceremony.
