  • Sounds like their testing and re-testing and probably have back up engines inside the planes - I lived near a Navy Base and remember hearing things like that too + up and hello jt good to see you
  • Yes, as part of a students education the instuctor will cut the engine to test a student.
  • It's part of their training. They have to become proficient at restarting a stalled plane in the air. They stall the engine by going nearly straight up, they have to re-alighn the plane pointing almost straight down and restart the engine. They also have to practice spinning the plane. That part of the training is referred to as "spins and stalls".
  • Yep, you are hearing that right. The manuever is called a slip stall and it is a part of training to learn to pull out of a stall. A plane can stall for several reasons...for example, it can happen if you pull the nose up too high. Some people do it for fun. That is right, Fun! When the plane goes into a stall you point the nose down and it is a great feeling of free falling. It is easy enough to correct so don't entertain visions of one crashing through your cieling during special time with the Mrs. LOL.. Mental note: Drink all of your coffee first and don't forget the Depends. It is a great time. Really! Nothing like it! Incredible adrenaline rush! Over time, with counseling, the nightmares subside.
