How do we know that Christianity isn't a large cult? Cult being in the negative sense of the word like how people use "gay".

I think of cults as being controlled by a single charismatic leader who makes unique claims for himself (eg, he's Jesus come back to life), very controlling, and claiming unique divine revelation. Christianity is way too fragmented and diverse for that, and too big, and most denominations wouldn't insist on their being THE ONLY TRUE WAY TO AVOID ETERNAL HELLFIRE. My own denomination makes a point of recognizing value in all spiritual traditions, even non-Christian ones. ("...even the wrong ones", a Father Guido Sarducci impersonator once joked from the platform during the announcements during a service.)
