  • Well if you took your dog to a vet, which has expertise in animals, i dont think i would have any room to disagree.
  • Sperm can live in the female 3-5 days So if she was in 4th day of heat she could have taken up to 5 days after that, which would make it 7th to 9th day of heat cycle which just happens to be perfect timing.
  • Why would you pay good money for professional advice and then ignore it? Is there a canine blood test for pregnancy? maybe you should go for that as well, and then not believe it either.
  • Thanks, but she also gave Nena her rabies vac which she said its a killed vac so is ok. Other people tell me that this should NOT have been done. So thats why i had my doubts with the vet. Also i did not see a tie happen, but you know how males are when females are in heat, they will do anything.
  • Breederbabe is right.... Sperm can live for several days after the breeding. At a reproduction clinic I attended, I learned sperm can hang around for a week or up to 11 days! About the vaccine... I've never known a vet to vacinate a pregnant bitch regardless. My vet won't even let me give peptobismol to my pregnant girls. If all signs show she's pregnant and the vet was able to palpate pups, you should be expecting a litter in a month or so. If I were you, I'd have her x-rayed around day 55 to be certain, and also to count the puppies.
  • I'd go to a different vet. Yours doesn't seem to be treating your dog with any great respect and knowledge. Howe long ago was the probable mating? How far along could she be? You could get the dog an ultrasound, and on the 25th day your vet could detect early heartbeats. If your vet tried to tell if she was pregnant by palpation, then she should be far enough along to get a preg blood test that will detect relaxin. Palpating really only works between the 20-30 days and after that time, the uterus could be so swollen that it's hard to tell or if the dog is really obese. At 45 days you can get the dog X-rayed which would show possibly how many puppies are in their. If your dog IS pregnant, be sure to start taking her temperature about one week before she is due so you can tell when there is a change within a few hours when she will give birth. The normal rectal temperature for dogs ranges from 100 to 102.5F. About 24 hours prior to giving birth the dog's temp will drop a few degrees. Then you know to be on watch, it's going to happen real soon:-)
  • Thanks so much galeanda. I also know that a killed vac and only one wont affect her =] If she is pregnant then she is as of today 26-27 days along. When the vet saw her it was on Friday the 7th. She is showing all signs. Here are some pics. Here is a picture taken today the 9th this morning with shaved belly. I shaved her belly on the 4th this week i believe =] Last two pictures where taken on the 6th this week.
