Question

Help answer this question below.

I would like to make a online store where I would buy things for cheap from a store and sell them online for more. Is this illegal, or could I get in any trouble for the makers or companies of these items?

It's not illegal so you shouldn't worry about that, but make sure you meet certain standards of integrity. Don't try to sell broken things as new, typewriters are not notebooks, dollar store toys are not antique action figures, etc etc :) you get the point.

It is called buying wholesale and selling retail.

Not only is it legal. It is the American way.

There are many companies that help you do this.

I can advise you on some of this in email and give you some leads if you like.

Some such shops are turn-key. In most, you don't have to handle anything but setting it up and driving traffic to your site.

Already is one. They call it Ebay. Lots of shops in the UK sell stuff on Ebay and make a fortune doing it as there is no over heads.

Please tell me the store where you can buy cheaper and still make a profit by on-selling? For starters, I cannot see where in the whole world it would be illegal to do so unless it is ill gotten goods or illegal goods. After all, this is what the legal stores do in the first place and it is called business. Anyone can start up an online store provided what they are selling is legal, also if selling this way, you send the items at the advertised price, what is so wrong about that, absolutly nothing. All stores buy either diect from the companies or wholesalers, then work out a break even point, then add a profit margin and then they sell the item/s. I often go to wholesalers and buy new things and take them to the markets and sell them at my price. Just make sure you keep the receipts of everything you buy, just in case the items were stolen in the first place, that could save your bacon should they be hot. The only other problem I could see, is if the company that makes that product, only sell them themselves, like Dell Computers and only through the phone or internet. You cannot go to a store and buy a new Dell computer. If you were going to sell Dell computers yourself, they would instantly cease trading with you, as they only can sell and service their own brand. Otherwise, go for it.

No it is not illegal. As long as you do not represent yourself as an offical distributor.

    Try worldwidebrands.com or salehoo.com
I do not have an opinion of these sites, it is just a some of the more wide known sources.

Don't think so... sounds like price inflation. If they don't want you to do it you can read their contract to see if they frown on that sort of conduct.

(But I won't be shopping there, lol! I price match/watch/check)!

If it were that easy, everyone would already be doing it. Stores like Costco and Walmart are already undercutting most other retailers. How can you compete against them? In addition, Costco has the best return policy in the retail business. Even if you could somehow undercut Costco (and you can't, b/c they buy in huge quantities direct from mfrs), people would rather pay a penny more and buy from a big company that stands behind its products.

If you want to learn the retail business, get a job at Target or Costco and learn on the job.
