It depends on what part of the Dominican Republic you intend visiting. LOADS of things to do in virtually every resort but to be specific I need to know WHERE you are going to.

DR is known for its all-inclusive resorts that make it easy to stay right on the property. Otherwise, the capitol of Santo Domingo is popular, along with whitewater rapids, waterfalls, numerous golf courses and 1,000 miles of beaches. Depends on what part you are going to. Santo Domingo is very interesting. You can tour the palace built by Christopher Colombus's son and a few other old buildings, as well as the giant lighthouse that projects a cross into the sky. La Romana (Casa De Campo) has a great resort and it's own airport too. nearby is Altos De Chavon, a recreation of a medieval mediterranean village, complete with an amphitheater. Samana has some nice resorts, also tons of really toursty resorts on the north coast arund Puerto Plata. You can do white water rafting, scuba diving (I dived with sharks)... The women are beautiful and friendly, the music is the best in the world. Merengue and Bachata and some Salsa are to be heard everywhere - except in the resorts, where sadly you might just as well be in New York :( The local music is really lively and fantastic to dance to - it's very romantic - totally the opposite of (C)rap etc. The food is also wonderful - drink plenty of pina coladas and eat lots of Sancocho, the local stew.

if your going to resorts then there's plenty of things for you to do. but if your going into the barrios be careful b/c people will rob you blind. it is no joke. people even steel those potholes that are on the streets. Even taxi men will try to jip you.

Be careful! There is a guy named Jorge that will want to fuck you in the ass. He tried the same on me.

Be sure to check out the National Aquarium near Cabaret Beach for marine studies lol
