What have celebrities really done for the public that anyone should be so interested in them?

Of course it's up you what you think of celebrities and some are annoying.Prince Charles (from England) has helped the environment and there is a scheme called The Prince's Trust in England to help motivate individuals and teach them new skills.Bono (from the group U2) has met with the English Prime Minister at the time and other world leaders I believe to discuss world poverty.And Bob Geldof (who was in a band).Some celebrities help those in 3rd world countries.

I think they do a great service by showing us the stages in their lives, their loves and hates, mistakes and triumphs.

They just entertain us. Focusing on them is a diversion whether good or bad from "real life" and our own problems. That said, some are worth the attention, most are not.
