My main purpose for taking birth control pills is for their intended use. Added benefits are a longer cycle (used to be 23 days, now 28), shorter & lighter periods and almost no cramps. It's all good!
My wife used to take Yasmin to get her hormones under control, but it caused more problems than it helped.
I took the pill to regulate my periods but the side effects put me in Hormonal Hell so now I just put up with irregular periods.
I started taking the pill in my early twenties to help with my PMS...I had ALL the symptoms! Bloating, cramping, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, backaches and sometimes serious migraines...and acne. And the pill has helped with them all. I think even if I were to get my tubes tied, I would still take the pill just for all the other benefits besides birth control.
my acne was horrible. i tried every otc product, literally, about 20 of them. tried 6 perscription creams and pills and all this crap, then my mothers ob-gyn recommended BC, because maybe it wasnt a bacterial cause like acne is usually caused by, maybve it was a horomonal thing. sure enough, it worked. i was so happy, it started working fulltime in about a month. i was 12 when i started, im almost 16 now and have taken birth control ever since. also helps regulate everything and make cycles predictable and easy ^__^
...nearly forgot. If hormones are that bad (depending on age) get some hormone replacement therapy or see a gynae. consultant regarding hormones, sometimes they fob you off with pills, well er often they fob you off with pills. They will try all measure and use the best for last. Failing that Id NEVER go to my GP as they dont know anything about contraception or hormones. Always try and go to a Family Planning Clinic, this is where the expert advice is.
I take them to treat benign hyperplasia
i originally went to the doctor for period issues. my periods varied from every 2wks to every 3mnths. so i asked to go on the pill to become regular. i hav had my period for 7yrs now n it still hadn't become regular sooo yea =]
You ppl need to re educate yourselves!!! :-) Theres so much more choice for contraception. Try a hormonal patch called Evra, its very good, v v few if any side effects, safe, easy. Only thing is, if you are overweight it can be a problem with the hormones getting into system (same as with the pill etc). Its transdermal (meaning it sits on the skin like a sticky patch). Or check it out online and google it. Pills are the cheapest method of contraception by ppl who are inconsistent at using them, typical service fobbing ppl off, especially as pills are the cheapest form of contraception (but probably most unreliable if not taken correctly).
Women who have experience with birth control: Did you experience fewer or no periods while on the pill? Did YOUR breast size increase?

You're reading How many females here take birth control pills for a use other than "birth control" and what do you use it for? (I take mine because I get terrible backaches to the point where I can pass out).
