We miss our girl!

Question

Help answer this question below.

Can anyone tell me what kind of spider this is? (please see answer for picture) I know the pictures aren't great, I can't get the front of it. I live in the thumb area of Michigan near woods, if that helps any.

Not a brown recluse. I know, because I've been bitten by one before when moving old stored boxes around before a move. Spider looks harmless enough. Probably just your garder variety type.

Never been bit by any doing this: Get a clear drinking glass and something that won't easily flex ... like an envelope, card, or a post card. Just cover the spider over with the glass and slide the card under it slowly to trap the spider. Keep the card against the glass to keep the glass sealed off and turn the trapped spider over while in the glass. If the spider is somehow clinging to the card or envelope, tap it to make the spider drop to the bottom of the glass. Spider will usually fall to the bottom when you turn the glass over anyway, nearly always anyway without having to tap it down. Just keep the glass covered and walk it away from your house. Let the spider go on a shrub or a fence somewhere. Spiders are good. Spiders help to control the insect population. Spiders just belong outside to do their job - not inside with us humans! ;)

I really don't think that is a cobweb spider. I'm no spider expert, but the profile photo you posted looks just like a brown widow. There's not too many kinds of spiders with that big humped body. I think it may be a 'violin spider'. Dangerous spider if it is.

From what I can see it looks brown so it might be a male Black Widow (maybe it's called a Brown Husband spider :p) which I think is harmless to humans.

I think Red Sox Rebel's answer gives the best advice.

the size and shape is similar to a black widow, I would imagine it has a similar bite.

    I would squash it.
Gross....I HATE spiders, they all need to die.
Kill it kill it kill it.
Freaked me out just to look at it.
I better not have nightmares tonight.

Looks like a catface spider to me. We used to have them by the hundreds in my barn back home. They spin beautiful webs and are marvelous fly and mosquito control. They still disgust me, though.

its a brown recluse, or better known as a fiddler spider. Their venom can cause serious problems even years after being bitten because it is both a neuro toxin and an acidic digestant. It has been known to cause an agonizing death in certain individuals. If you have these in your home, you need to have your home sprayed for spiders. If you have them in your yard, you need to mark the area that you found them in and leave that area alone. If you are bitten, go to the doctor immediately, or the ER if the doctor's office is closed.
