  • Just gritted my teeth and went for it. It happened to me when I was making my first public announcements in mandarin..I just thought 'well if I get it wrong or use the wrong tone and call somebody's mother an ungrateful artichoke'..well,,,,at least they know I'm trying and struggling with a new language.
  • Yes, if I have to do any public speaking. I can't overcome it, so I just don't do it.
  • Yes. I have always been that way. I would love to be in a community theatre play, but I would probably be too nervous.
  • Yes. I was taught to breath deeply..to a count of 5: In...2...3...4...5, Out...2...3...4...5 over and over, and at the same time change your thought from "Oh my god, I'm soooo nervous...I can't do this...etc" to "This is normal. It will pass. This normal. It will pass..." over and over. Anxiety (which is what stage fright is) is very common...and you can overcome it with practice. Also, I know people who have conquered anxiety/stage fright by seeing a certified hypnotherapist.
  • The only time I had to speak in front of people was in high school & I chose to get a failing grade because I refused to get up in front of the class
  • All the time in high school whenever I had to get up in front of the class...my palms would sweat, I'd get beet red and I wanted to just evaporate or disappear.. in 11th grade I took a Drama class and when acting in a play I never had stage fright..surprised me..I guess it was because I was someone else and not me...it was the strangest thing. :)
  • I don't get it until after whatever it is I am doing, so I really don't worry about it! My main suggestion would be harnessing that nervous energy to enhance your performance.
  • 4th wall... Get soooooo far inside your character's skin that there isn't a doubt in your mind what he would do. Then slap up that fourth wall and do what you must.
  • By going through it . Standing on the stage , forgetting your lines ....Thankfully I've been through that :-) !
  • Took off my clothes.
  • look at the people in the front row and make believe they are naked.
  • monologue, theater and acting lessons can help a lot, practicing your craft in an open learning area, repitition help get rid of the fear. Do something energetic before you perofrm to burn off some of the nervous energy. take a public speaking class or rehearse at home and video tape yoursefl. analyze your performances and pick out problems or nervous cues. everyone gets nervous, learn to turn that fear into energy for your performance!
  • Take a couple of deep breaths, and dont think about it so hard.
  • a lot of actors I know use beta blockers, but it depends if you are an adult as they are prescription, not any type of opiate , they decrese stress. a good vomit is also known to help (I know of 2 very well known actors who always chuck prior to the first take, they don't induce it, it is a nervous reaction .)
  • There is only one real way to do this. Practice by doing it. There are no shortcuts.
