  • woah! that made me think! lol good question. i guess you are right but lots of people don't believe in the bible
  • We don't know if the flying teapot doesnt' exist either. Unfortunately, nobody is writing books on that subject so we are stuck with the Bible, if you so choose to believe it. I really rather rely on man and scientific, provable fact because all the Bible has done is just uttered thousands upon thousands of words - some nice, some not so nice - and it is all nothing but conjecture, not exactly truth. Sadly, we are doomed to repeat the sins of our fathers and that is in being made to swallow superstition and rumour without proof. In answer to your question, either many Gods exist or none do or one does. I choose to believe that none exist and get on with my life without fear of failing to live up to the scare tactics of an unprovable god and a Bible.
  • That's a matter of circular reasoning, a common practice in "logical" argumentation with anyone that adheres to any sort of faith. Circular reasoning is invalid reasoning, or the lack of reasoning. The Bible also says: "Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. But all the young girls who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves." - Numbers 31:17 (Moses, advocating genocide, child murder and the rape of young virgins) It says a lot of things. Moses was God's right hand man back in those days. He went to the effort of talking to him through a burning bush to give him 10 completely unoriginal commandments to help us know "right from wrong". One would think that God would have maybe stepped in and told Moses "Um, you might want to lay off on the genocide, child murder, and rape a little... yeah", but actually Moses was following God's directive - the "Manifest Destiny" of the Hebrews to win the entire region of land they were promised - ancient (and much larger than it is now) Israel. It also says the Hebrews were once slaves to the Egyptians. We KNOW this is not true, because there is absolutely no archaeological evidence or historical recordings among the Egyptians. One would think with all those plagues, and with a Jew ending up being raised as the Pharoah's own son, and then leading the slaves out of Egypt, and that whole Exodus thing, that there'd be SOME trace. But nothing. Maybe God magically made all the evidence disappear so we'd have to believe on faith, another one of his sick "tests", like when he buried all those dinosaur bones and fabricated all the clear evidence of human evolution from earlier ape-like missing links, and made Earth seem 4.55 billion years old rather than 6000 or so.
  • If He (God) does not exist, we don’t either…. If you are looking for a “proof” or “evidence” that He exists, He will not be found, He made sure of that… Intellect and “smarts” are not prerequisites, a pure and contrite heart is. But if you really want to read about “the evidence”, try the book: “Josh McDowell - Evidence That Demands a Verdict” It is an attempt of one intellectual to put the God the Father, Jesus, Bible and events that it describes in a perspective. It may help…
  • I’m a Christian, and I have to say that I *love* this question! It drives me *crazy* when people use this logic to try to prove the existence of God! (Of course, to be fair, I’ve more often heard this type of reasoning coming from Muslims—the Qu’ran is the word of Allah because Allah says so; Allah is perfectly trustworthy because the Qu’ran says so. Either way, though, it’s ridiculous.) What we have here are two possible sources: God and a bunch of books. So let’s check our options: The bunch of books (i.e. the Bible) are supposedly the word of God, but the only way we can know if that’s true is if God personally admits authorship thereof. (*Gulliver’s Travels* claims to have been written by Lemuel Gulliver, and all internal evidence attests to this fact. It’s still not true.) A book is just a bunch of ink and paper; it can’t reliably testify of itself. God, on the other hand, is by definition a living, breathing Being. He’s got eyes, a nose, a mouth; He’s got arms and legs and a torso. If God exists—which by definition means that He is perfect (since that’s one of the inherent attributes of God)—then He is a reliable source, someone that can feasibly testify on His own behalf, and is perfectly capable of conveying this testimony to anyone that cares to listen. That’s why we have to start with Him. Here’s what the Bible says to do: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God … and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth … shall [not] receive any thing of the Lord” (James 1:5ff; available online at http://scriptures.lds.org/en/james/1/5-7). If this passage be false, its suggested course of action will yield nothing and, by extension, the very answer it promises (although admittedly, since faith is a gift of the Spirit of God, it wouldn’t be possible to have faith in a nonexistent God; only belief; but that’s a discussion for another time). If, however, the passageis true, then your question will fall by the wayside as the light and knowledge of God fills your person with intelligence (which, by the way, is an amazing experience). So bottom line: I—and millions of others—have faith in God that is completely independent of the Bible. The Bible is not true because the Bible claims that God *said* so; it’s true (in its original form, at least) because God *says* so—present tense—and continues to say so, whenever one of His children cares sufficiently to humble him- or herself and ask Him. Make sense?
  • Very good question. Unlike all other religious books, there are certain passages in the bible that authenticate the bible. These passages have to do with prophecy. Some prophecies have to do with the changing of nations and governments; some have to do with the mission of Jesus. If these prophecies did not come true, then we would have no reason to believe the bible is the word of God. In addition, there are many archeological finds, which support many of the bible stories. For more on this see the book: called THE IMAGE OF GOD IN THIS GENERATION, which is available at Amazon.com, Barnes and noble, and books a million
  • i am catholic.......i have heard stories stating that GOD is a myth.....we will never know the answer to this until we die......but, us believing in GOD while we are still here gives us strength....i will pray for you......take care.....Brian.....
  • coz there is other side of the coin who so difficult to realize that GOD is really exist.. fair enough..
  • The same question could be reversed back to you? Why is it so difficult for people to realize that God does exist?
  • because it is imprinted into them at a young age ;ie baptism , church in school , marry a christian , raise christian babies . ---social programing , brainwashing , then when they can chose for themselves , they dont want to admit they are a fool . too much time and money invested . the smear campains , and cola war taticts against other faiths work too .
  • Hmmmmm.... ....probably the same reason it's difficult for people to realize that it's not necessary for everyone to share the same beliefs.
  • In my opinion.. It's because man has difficulty accepting his own insignificance, We have to believe there is a greater plan for us. Also it gives people comfort when people close to them are sick or die, to know they are being looked after.. and answered a lot of questions that until recently we had no real answers for... That’s MY opinion.. It really isn't important to me that everybody agrees with me or thinks the same.. I think that faith, can be very comforting, and has a lot of advantages. EXAMPLE.. If you are a doctor, who deals with death everyday, wouldn't it be more comforting to hold a belief that this was happening for a reason, that this person will be with God, And this is God’s plan. As oppose to the atheist belief that things happen not for a reason but randomly.. And death is just some sort of 'fade to black' Having said that, I also believe that this kind of belief can diminish human responsibility to the point nothing happens unless God want's it to, And also that terrible things can be justified in the name of the divine pursuit.
  • Just simple Because ALLAH is Present.
  • Because it makes more sense that God is real. Make sense of why we are here? What is the purpose and point?
  • Why is it so difficult for you to realize that the existence of god cannot be proven or unproven? Proof has to do with FACTS. Belief in god is a BELIEF. There is no overlap here.
  • for the same reason you can not prove that he does you have to beleive in order to experience the truth
  • Because 'Nature' has a creator.
  • why is it so bloody difficult for atheists to leave believers alone? we live in a free country... i guess we have a right to decide if we believe in a God or no, without someone constantly asking us to say why and why not... at least i hope so!
  • Because that's not the truth. God DOES exist :)
  • To you & me he doesn’t! to some he does with many different names in many different faiths! with all due respect it's not for us to debate or question! it's between the faiths to prove if theirs is the main Man or not!! let them sort it out between them, but don't hold your breath for a winner as it's been going on for nigh on two thousands years! :-/ give or take!!
  • You cannot prove that he does exist nor that he does not !! You can only attest of what your believes are, live and let live !!
  • Oh, I'm sure they're just telling you they believe in God in order to irritate you! They certainly have some nerve LOL.
  • Must be that darn pesky evidence that an intelligent creator is responsible for the universe and its contents.
  • Probably because so many other people believe that God exists. They see that as enough reason to just have faith. Its the same with all religions really. It just depends where you grew up and what influences you grew up with.
  • Because He does, in fact, exist. Just because one can recite scripture doesn't mean that they understand what they are reciting. The bible explains everything but you have to study until you understand. If all you are doing is looking for bullet points to mock, that doesn't give you anything but a chance to show your total ignorance. Read it, learn it, be able to explain it intelligently, and you might start to understand that which you think is folly on someone else's part.
  • we don't want too!!!! i know that i doubt him. I have watched everything on you tube and read plenty of books about it at the same time this is how i was broght up so how to you forget everything you were taught to believe and believed your entire life!!! in a way havin GOD gives you someone to vent to!!!? As long as i live my life as a decent loving carnig and honorable person i'll be ok!!!!!
  • Your question is bogus.
  • nobody knows for sure yes, many people have such a strong feeling that they THINK they know, but it's all faith having faith in God and Heaven gives people something to look forward after death and be (to a point) comfortable with their demise in short, they believe God exists, so he does more or less
  • sorry . meant to comment
  • because we won't ever be able to prove it.
  • We don't know that God doesn't exist, He could, but I don't believe it.
  • Most of us: because of fear
  • because god DOES exist
  • obviously god exists all you have to do is look up nd see his creation and if people belive in the big bang how can a meteor come down and bang everythin happened? just answer me this how r were did the meteor come frm nd how did it get created obviously somthin r some1 wud ave had to make it? nd also with the monkeys were did the moneys come from and if we were created by monkeys y arent we still being made by them?
  • Why is it so difficult for some people to realize that no amount of self-justifying propagandizing is ever going to convince those who choose to believe in God to stop it?
  • For the same reason it is so difficult 'for some' to realize HE does!!! they make it difficult..and thats sad, because HE is really very SIMPLE...:)
  • How did you come to that realisation? Is that realisation something that you can share with us so we may come to the same realisation? My realisation is different : I have read the word of God, I believe what I read, and I believe. The more you can share of your realisation the more likely we may start from a common ground.
  • If you were so absolutely certain in the unexistence of a diety, and were secure in your beliefs, then you may have a different attitude. You could go about your affairs and look upon those who fritter their time and resources on something false, with indifference. It would not bother you that they see things their way and you see things your way.
  • Okay mister Einstein, now that you figured out how this world come into existence why don't you share your knowledge with me and make it easy for me to decide?!
  • Their utter lack of ignorance.
  • I think we humans just have a natural inclination to want to connect to something "higher" than or outside of ourselves. Throughout our history natural surroundings and occurences have been attributed to a diety or force of some sort. It makes it easier to explain or understand things we can't or don't want to comprehend. The idea that a god is not responsible for any of this and that we have to find other explanations and actually DEAL with what life throws our way then becomes FRIGHTENING.
  • The lack of evidence otherwise.
  • Why is it so difficult for some atheists to actually think for themselves?
  • Apparently the beating of this dead horse isn't enough. Someone shoot it.
  • Because He does and Atheism is a lie.
  • Even if that's true, why is it so important?
  • That's quite an assumption. If a person has found faith and believes in God's existence it is unlikely another person can convince him otherwise. A person may lose faith for personal reasons such as through life events.
  • It's a choice and people stubbornly hang onto it for psychological security. Organised religion adds a community aspect that many people need too; a sense of belonging. Deep down some believers know it's very unlikely there is a god but others cannot accept this. Faith is faith. It's like a mental shutter comes down that will now allow for the idea there is no god. It keeps people safe like the psychological protection mechanism that let's them not dwell on unpleasant ideas like the idea that their child might get hurt today. Humanity may grow out of the need one day but it's people's large brains that make them so fragile in a way, even though the results can make people seem distinctly lacking in cerebral activity.
  • Because they were abused (brainwashed) as young children by liars (parents, grandparents, siblings, god botherers, teachers etc) who they trusted in their innocence.
  • Because that is a false statement, as you will find out.
  • God is a safety blanket for them. If they let go of the blanket, they will be forced to see the harsh, cruel reality of our world.
  • Most people, including scientists, cannot get beyond the concept of the "prime mover." Science has not yet explained how the universe created itself. Something began the process. Even though scientists have figured out what forces caused the big bang, they have not yet figured out what created the conditions under which it took place. Even then, can anyone truly explain the intricate, precise, and beautiful results of creation? Random? I think not.
  • So many BIG THINGS happen and Exist that are still beyond humans capacity and control. May be you are the GOD ?
  • How can this even be a question? For any thinking and feeling human it should be difficult to contemplate life without god because we have our own mortality to face...if there is no higher power, then upon death, we just fade into nothingness. Everything that we hold dear, the people we love, the memories we cherish, are all for nothing if we no longer exist to be aware of them. The idea of nothingness, of endless black after death, terrifies me. All religious beliefs aside, the idea that this little life we are living is all there is, and upon death we perish, is so, so sad. I wonder how anyone could think exploring the idea of life without God is not difficult? The alternative is tragic.
  • @noone: This is a "Straw man": "life without direction a plausible and rational conclusion?" I never said anything about "Life without direction." No one on this series of posts has, you were the first to mention it. The argument posted and being evaluated is that there exists: "evidence that an intelligent creator is responsible for the universe and its contents." I want to see this evidence. The fallacy of the following argument is obvious: "You can't prove God doesn't exist, therefore there is a creator and my Bible is correct arguments." I usually respond, "You can't prove my dog isn't God, but you can't prove anything isn't God because God can do ANYTHING, even disguise himself as a grain of sand." That is how my dog get involved. OK now please share "evidence that God exists" and we'll go from here.
  • This is a perfect classic example of Begging The Question, a fallacy in logic also known as Petitio Principii, or circular reasoning. It consists of taking the conclusion as a premise in order to prove what you have assumed to be true as a given. Any basic Freshman logic text will tell you that. Or try a Google for begging question and "petitio principii."
