Help answer this question below.
why is it so bloody difficult for atheists to leave believers alone? we live in a free country... i guess we have a right to decide if we believe in a God or no, without someone constantly asking us to say why and why not... at least i hope so!
The same question could be reversed back to you? Why is it so difficult for people to realize that God does exist?
Because that's not the truth. God DOES exist :)
Hmmmmm....
....probably the same reason it's difficult for people to realize that it's not necessary for everyone to share the same beliefs.
Must be that darn pesky evidence that an intelligent creator is responsible for the universe and its contents.
Because it makes more sense that God is real. Make sense of why we are here? What is the purpose and point?
Because 'Nature' has a creator.
In my opinion.. It's because man has difficulty accepting his own insignificance, We have to believe there is a greater plan for us. Also it gives people comfort when people close to them are sick or die, to know they are being looked after.. and answered a lot of questions that until recently we had no real answers for...
That’s MY opinion.. It really isn't important to me that everybody agrees with me or thinks the same..
I think that faith, can be very comforting, and has a lot of advantages.
EXAMPLE.. If you are a doctor, who deals with death everyday, wouldn't it be more comforting to hold a belief that this was happening for a reason, that this person will be with God, And this is God’s plan. As oppose to the atheist belief that things happen not for a reason but randomly.. And death is just some sort of 'fade to black'
Having said that, I also believe that this kind of belief can diminish human responsibility to the point nothing happens unless God want's it to, And also that terrible things can be justified in the name of the divine pursuit.
Why is it so difficult for you to realize that the existence of god cannot be proven or unproven? Proof has to do with FACTS. Belief in god is a BELIEF. There is no overlap here.
You cannot prove that he does exist nor that he does not !! You can only attest of what your believes are, live and let live !!
for the same reason you can not prove that he does you have to beleive in order to experience the truth
Apparently the beating of this dead horse isn't enough. Someone shoot it.
Why is it so difficult for some atheists to actually think for themselves?
The lack of evidence otherwise.
Your question is bogus.
Because He does, in fact, exist. Just because one can recite scripture doesn't mean that they understand what they are reciting. The bible explains everything but you have to study until you understand. If all you are doing is looking for bullet points to mock, that doesn't give you anything but a chance to show your total ignorance. Read it, learn it, be able to explain it intelligently, and you might start to understand that which you think is folly on someone else's part.
Because they were abused (brainwashed) as young children by liars (parents, grandparents, siblings, god botherers, teachers etc) who they trusted in their innocence.
If you were so absolutely certain in the unexistence of a diety, and were secure in your beliefs, then you may have a different attitude. You could go about your affairs and look upon those who fritter their time and resources on something false, with indifference. It would not bother you that they see things their way and you see things your way.
How did you come to that realisation?
Is that realisation something that you can share with us so we may come to the same realisation?
My realisation is different : I have read the word of God, I believe what I read, and I believe.
The more you can share of your realisation the more likely we may start from a common ground.
For the same reason it is so difficult 'for some' to realize HE does!!! they make it difficult..and thats sad, because HE is really very SIMPLE...:)
Why is it so difficult for some people to realize that no amount of self-justifying propagandizing is ever going to convince those who choose to believe in God to stop it?
obviously god exists all you have to do is look up nd see his creation and if people belive in the big bang how can a meteor come down and bang everythin happened? just answer me this how r were did the meteor come frm nd how did it get created obviously somthin r some1 wud ave had to make it? nd also with the monkeys were did the moneys come from and if we were created by monkeys y arent we still being made by them?
because god DOES exist
nobody knows for sure
yes, many people have such a strong feeling that they THINK they know, but it's all faith
having faith in God and Heaven gives people something to look forward after death and be (to a point) comfortable with their demise
in short, they believe God exists, so he does
more or less
Probably because so many other people believe that God exists. They see that as enough reason to just have faith. Its the same with all religions really. It just depends where you grew up and what influences you grew up with.
To you & me he doesn’t! to some he does with many different names in many different faiths! with all due respect it's not for us to debate or question! it's between the faiths to prove if theirs is the main Man or not!! let them sort it out between them, but don't hold your breath for a winner as it's been going on for nigh on two thousands years! :-/ give or take!!
Just simple Because ALLAH is Present.
because it is imprinted into them at a young age ;ie baptism , church in school , marry a christian , raise christian babies . ---social programing , brainwashing , then when they can chose for themselves , they dont want to admit they are a fool . too much time and money invested . the smear campains , and cola war taticts against other faiths work too .
coz there is other side of the coin who so difficult to realize that GOD is really exist..
fair enough..
That's a matter of circular reasoning, a common practice in "logical" argumentation with anyone that adheres to any sort of faith. Circular reasoning is invalid reasoning, or the lack of reasoning.
The Bible also says:
"Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. But all the young girls who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves." - Numbers 31:17 (Moses, advocating genocide, child murder and the rape of young virgins)
It says a lot of things. Moses was God's right hand man back in those days. He went to the effort of talking to him through a burning bush to give him 10 completely unoriginal commandments to help us know "right from wrong". One would think that God would have maybe stepped in and told Moses "Um, you might want to lay off on the genocide, child murder, and rape a little... yeah", but actually Moses was following God's directive - the "Manifest Destiny" of the Hebrews to win the entire region of land they were promised - ancient (and much larger than it is now) Israel.
It also says the Hebrews were once slaves to the Egyptians. We KNOW this is not true, because there is absolutely no archaeological evidence or historical recordings among the Egyptians. One would think with all those plagues, and with a Jew ending up being raised as the Pharoah's own son, and then leading the slaves out of Egypt, and that whole Exodus thing, that there'd be SOME trace. But nothing.
Maybe God magically made all the evidence disappear so we'd have to believe on faith, another one of his sick "tests", like when he buried all those dinosaur bones and fabricated all the clear evidence of human evolution from earlier ape-like missing links, and made Earth seem 4.55 billion years old rather than 6000 or so.
God is a safety blanket for them. If they let go of the blanket, they will be forced to see the harsh, cruel reality of our world.
Because that is a false statement, as you will find out.
It's a choice and people stubbornly hang onto it for psychological security. Organised religion adds a community aspect that many people need too; a sense of belonging. Deep down some believers know it's very unlikely there is a god but others cannot accept this. Faith is faith. It's like a mental shutter comes down that will now allow for the idea there is no god. It keeps people safe like the psychological protection mechanism that let's them not dwell on unpleasant ideas like the idea that their child might get hurt today. Humanity may grow out of the need one day but it's people's large brains that make them so fragile in a way, even though the results can make people seem distinctly lacking in cerebral activity.
That's quite an assumption. If a person has found faith and believes in God's existence it is unlikely another person can convince him otherwise. A person may lose faith for personal reasons such as through life events.
Even if that's true, why is
it so important?
Because He does and Atheism is a lie.
Their utter lack of ignorance.
Okay mister Einstein, now that you figured out how this world come into existence why don't you share your knowledge with me and make it easy for me to decide?!
Most of us: because of fear
We don't know that God doesn't exist, He could, but I don't believe it.
because we won't ever be able to prove it.
Oh, I'm sure they're just telling you they believe in God in order to irritate you! They certainly have some nerve LOL.
If He (God) does not exist, we don’t either….
If you are looking for a “proof” or “evidence” that He exists, He will not be found, He made sure of that… Intellect and “smarts” are not prerequisites, a pure and contrite heart is.
But if you really want to read about “the evidence”, try the book:
“Josh McDowell - Evidence That Demands a Verdict”
It is an attempt of one intellectual to put the God the Father, Jesus, Bible and events that it describes in a perspective.
It may help…
woah! that made me think! lol good question. i guess you are right but lots of people don't believe in the bible
sorry . meant to comment
we don't want too!!!! i know that i doubt him. I have watched everything on you tube and read plenty of books about it at the same time this is how i was broght up so how to you forget everything you were taught to believe and believed your entire life!!! in a way havin GOD gives you someone to vent to!!!? As long as i live my life as a decent loving carnig and honorable person i'll be ok!!!!!
i am catholic.......i have heard stories stating that GOD is a myth.....we will never know the answer to this until we die......but, us believing in GOD while we are still here gives us strength....i will pray for you......take care.....Brian.....
Very good question.
Unlike all other religious books, there are certain passages in the bible that authenticate the bible. These passages have to do with prophecy. Some prophecies have to do with the changing of nations and governments; some have to do with the mission of Jesus. If these prophecies did not come true, then we would have no reason to believe the bible is the word of God. In addition, there are many archeological finds, which support many of the bible stories.
For more on this see the book: called THE IMAGE OF GOD IN THIS GENERATION, which is available at Amazon.com, Barnes and noble, and books a million
I think we humans just have a natural inclination to want to connect to something "higher" than or outside of ourselves. Throughout our history natural surroundings and occurences have been attributed to a diety or force of some sort. It makes it easier to explain or understand things we can't or don't want to comprehend. The idea that a god is not responsible for any of this and that we have to find other explanations and actually DEAL with what life throws our way then becomes FRIGHTENING.
This is a perfect classic example of Begging The Question, a fallacy in logic also known as Petitio Principii, or circular reasoning.
It consists of taking the conclusion as a premise in order to prove what you have assumed to be true as a given.
Any basic Freshman logic text will tell you that.
Or try a Google for
begging question and "petitio principii."

You're reading If god exists because the bible says so and the bible is true because god says so, is it the same as saying god exists because god says he exists? But we dont know that he exists?
- which can also be phrased in the following ways:

Yeah we do have the right. We also have the right to get into believer's faces about their beliefs. The day that Christians stop their proselytizing is the day we will leave you all alone.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 12th, 2009
i agree , most of the time it's self defence
by The Anonymous Witch on September 12th, 2009
yeah, well, you live in the past then, or else, in the greatly oppressed America. Where i live, all live peacefully together, be they Christians, Muslims, Jews or atheists. Grow up.
by Rin on September 13th, 2009
@George... harassing others is not a right. If someone is harassing you to become a Christian (which I highly doubt) then they are doing something wrong. Or else you're so prejudiced against Christians, that just the sight of them doing anything Christian you lash out and say they are offending you. And that's just plain selfish.
by Rin on September 13th, 2009
i myself only defend my beliefs when challenged , as i am sure you do . and there is nothing wrong with that .
by The Anonymous Witch on September 13th, 2009
no there is nothing wrong with that. maybe i misunderstood you? who were you agreeing with in your comment?
by Rin on September 13th, 2009
part of his last line .
by The Anonymous Witch on September 13th, 2009
No, you don't have the right to prohibit people asking you why or why not you believe something. On the other hand you're not obliged to answer.
by RC loves ice cream on September 16th, 2009
you misunderstood me ram. i did not say that I have a right to prohibit people asking me why or why not I believe something. What I wanted to say was that people have a right not to be harassed with repeated questions. You know, just like those telephone sellers that keep phoning to offer you their service when you're definately not interested and have asked them not to and they keep on going.
by Rin on September 17th, 2009
i am definately pissed off at the amount of atheists posting questions here demanding impossible answers while answering their question themselves in the comments. what these people want to know is not the opinion of believers, but they want to just have a reason to argue. why bloody ask the question if you're bloody decided against listening to what they say?
by Rin on September 17th, 2009
if you are true atheists, why are you interested in what believers think or not? atheists here are so obsessed with God and what the Bible says (see an answer down here, long at least 3 feet i think, with quotes from the Bible, copy-pasted by an atheist like yourself, with nothing else to do other than trying to make us believe that the culture of today and that of 2000 years ago are the same) that it's difficult to believe they are true atheists. so why the hell don't you shut up about things you're not really knowledgable about, and live your life in peace? and in the process let others live in peace, whatever their beliefs?
by Rin on September 17th, 2009
In the past there was religious oppression true, where everyone had to be faithful to that religion, or else... I'm not saying that was good. In fact, it's not. It should never have been done. But now it's the reverse. The atheists are harassing the believers (be they Christians, Muslims, Jews, etc) to the point of experation. Questions like this one is proof, and also how somehow my answer is still in the top is further proof. So just stop will you, and we'll let you adore the money in peace, I promise.
by Rin on September 17th, 2009
Its evolution Rin. We're just trying to help the human race evolve out of its spiritual darkness. Why believe in impossible things when you can't give reasonable answers to simple questions about your faith? Like I said in the beginning, the day Christians stop proselytizing is the day we will leave you alone.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 17th, 2009
rin , you say . "In the past there was religious oppression true" but now it's the reverse ???" not quite , i am a witch , everywhere i go i find people that still think witchs , wiccans, ans pagans are devil worshipers , as told by the christian lies and smear canpaigns etc...you hear of people in the craft losing their job for being a wiccan etc.... witches are still being KILLED today in some countries , becaause of the churches lies .
by The Anonymous Witch on September 17th, 2009
we have nothing to do with YOUR devil, he is a christian deity , to worship him would be christian . ! . your own bible still tells you to kill witches ,. this still goes on today .. some of us speak up because we want to stop you spreading these lies about us to others and getting more against us ... it is self-defence ! .
by The Anonymous Witch on September 17th, 2009
yes, and our Bible was written 2000 years ago, with a culture of 2000 years ago in mind, when they still thought the world was flat, being childless is a malediction, and other such superstitions, including the fact that witches and such were considered to be the devil. the bible is not intended to be followed blindly, but to follow its message. wrt witches etc, the bible's message is not to believe anything which claims to know the future or talk to spirits etc, because that is God's territory. cont
by Rin on September 18th, 2009
Man is not intended to know the future, but to live for each day, accept death as part of life etc. religion aside, witches and those claiming to read the future for me are rubbish, but then I am entitled to an opinion, no? and no, i assure you, my belief about witches was not influenced by religion. i can think with my mind. your frind George above said "Why believe in impossible things..."... well now i can ask that to you... but i won't because i'm not trying to impose on you anything. cont
by Rin on September 18th, 2009
and please, Georgie, can you give me concrete examples of what Christians are doing to try and convert you to Christianity? Are there people coming knocking at your door, begging you to join their religion? or else people harassing you to go to church and repent for your unfaithfulness? or are there Christians sitting nearby you reading the bible aloud and trying to make you believe in their religion? or sending you leaflets? or phoning you? or else coming to preach in front of your door? or putting any type of pressure on you to convert? please tell me so that i'll know how you are being harassed. purlease.......
by Rin on September 18th, 2009
on the other hand, wherever i go, if i mention religion, i am snubbed and labelled as 'old fashioned' or queer to say the least offensive. atheists just dismiss me because of what i believe in, while on the other hand, i don't snub atheists, and neither do most Christians and Muslims i know. why not respect each other and what we believe in? this tirade is self defence... you say what you are doing is self defence.
by Rin on September 18th, 2009
but if you live in today's world and get out and live life, you'd know that you don't need self defence. even witches are not seen so badly these days... at least where i live here - unless they are caught frauding other people for their money, which happens often. today it's believers who need the self defence. and please don't insult my intelligence.
by Rin on September 18th, 2009
Sure. Every other day I go to work where I get to spend 4 hours with people who know I am not Christian. Every Sunday these people go into church and pray in groups for me to join their religion. Of course I know that God is a hoax, but I am aware of the power of thought energy, especially when combined with other people who have the same goal in mind, (as in group prayer). That to me is harassment. Then I have plenty of people on this website who constantly post questions for me to read which remind me of their silly ideas about how I am going to spend eternity in a place of suffering for rejecting their preferred God. I drive down the street and see giant signs on the side of the road that say, " FEAR GOD", with bible scriptures on the bottom. Christianity is a big problem, and I will not stop working against it until it is brought under control like a bad habit. As far as talking to spirits, if one is open enough and learns how to discern different spirits, one can get to see the future. Some spirits like to make friends with people, but it takes time. It can be tricky in my experiences because some spirits do not care about people while others are friendly and honest if treated with respect. I know a witch who has won the lottery twice from working magick and communicating with spirits. Spirits told him the correct numbers to choose for the drawing. He is well off, doesn't have to work, and he continues to teach magick for free. Spirits and Demons have done many things for me, including warning me about certain things and directing me towards good things I wouldn't have found without their guidance. Christianity, Judaism and Islam are the greatest corruption of magick in the history of mankind.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 18th, 2009
rin , i think you and i have both made our points . george,,,,, demons ??? isn't that a christian notion ?
by The Anonymous Witch on September 18th, 2009
yeah, Anonymous... for once i am agreeing with you. Georgie seems demented to me... oops, sorry! didn't mean to say something from my religion!!!!
.
really Georgie... you don't believe in God, but you believe in magick?! honestly...
by Rin on September 18th, 2009
and btw again Georgie... where the hell do you live? big posters with FEAR GOD on them?!? and how does a group praying for you affect you badly? i think you're obsessed my friend... if you don't believe, it won't affect you, because you don't just pray for someone and that someone believes in your cause soon after. religion is all about choice. if you don't want to, you're not forced to practice it. it must be your choice. i think you misunderstood something about Christianity. go and look it up (and don't choose phoney websites if you do please...)
by Rin on September 18th, 2009
I didn't say it effects me badly. Most Christians have weak minds so their thought energy isn't that strong. I am stronger than them all and the proof is that their faith isn't strong enough to cause me to become a Christ worshipper. They have no knowledge of the occult which could make their prayer efforts stronger. Demons are blasphemed in the bible. They really do exist but the Jews have made them out to be like hideous monsters to prevent people from finding out the truth. Fictional God is said to be perfect while everything wrong in the world is blamed on the Demons. The biblical God is a fraud. Jesus is a fraud. Christianity is a thought form. It is a prescribed way of thinking, a tool to remove occult knowledge from the average person so that a few people can control the world around them without any resistance. God in reality is the Jewish people. Like I've said before, Christianity is a system of Jewish magick. When you pray for the kingdom of God to come, you are really praying for the Jewish NWO. They know that God is a fraud. They obviously know that Jesus is a fraud. Their plan from the beginning has been to take over the world. That is obvious from studying the Talmud and the Old Testament. This might seem like too much for your fragile Christian mind to comprehend. That wouldn't surprise me considering that you are under a Jewish spell.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 18th, 2009
oh right... that must be it. i must be under a jewish spell. God help me!
.
lol Georgie, it would be very funny, weren't you saying this seriously. tell me you're joking, please....
by Rin on September 18th, 2009
Do you seriously worship a false God who is responsible for the murder of children, mothers and newborn infants? 1 Samuel 15:2-3.

human sacrifice

And then they create a distraction and blame all evil on Satan and humanity while calling God righteous. What a joke.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 19th, 2009
yeah... when those things were fashionable 2000 years ago... like you know, the culture of offering young children to the gods. those were the times i must say...
by Rin on September 19th, 2009
no you got it wrong Georgie. evil is within us. without religion, we will destroy ourselves. religion is what helps us do the right thing. well, obviously, what is considered good changes over time. you got to admit that. and i'm not saying all the church did in the past was good. mention the crusades, for example. they should never have been done. but the church is human after all... and humans err.
by Rin on September 19th, 2009
@ wrt to death of newborn infants... isn't the secular world killing babies still not born, under the name of abortion? a child a few weeks old, even if not fully formed, is still a human being. and that is killing. and the church TODAY does not agree with murder, rape, slavery and human sacrifice... you live in the past if you believe that my dear.
by Rin on September 19th, 2009
Read the verse I posted. It says that the Lord ordered the murder of these innocent people. The only thing worse than murdering innocent children and newborn infants is raping them before you murder them. Your God is quite the unholy piece of shit, and you worship it! How sacrilegious to believe that the Christian God is our creator. Great links Anonymous.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 19th, 2009
There you go trying to justify the insane works of your unholy god. Just blame the evil works of your false God on people. The thing is, you are right, but you can only see that truth if you acknowledge the fact that your God is a creation of evil men. Christians are insane.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 19th, 2009
yes i read it, and now you read my post... THOSE THINGS WERE WRITTEN MORE THAN 2000 YEARS AGO (that's from the OLD Testament)... why do you think the NEW Testament was written? does it occur to you that it might have been written to OVERWRITE the older one? you have to read between the lines in the bible, because the bible was written for a culture that learns by parables and explains by parables. the message underneath that verse is that God is with his people and will protect them against the evil, in this case personalised in the Amalekites. in those times, there was only black and white, whearas today we are seeing the grey. hope you understood me Georgie. peace be with you.
by Rin on September 19th, 2009
anyone can go out and find an old or new testament bible today . those things are still in there . some "not so witty person. " hears that this is the word of god etc... and problems start . and why would you follow it if it was wrong the first time ,,, and doesn't this prove it was written by man ? .
by The Anonymous Witch on September 19th, 2009
"There you go trying to justify the insane works of your unholy god. Just blame the evil works of your false God on people. The thing is, you are right, but you can only see that truth if you acknowledge the fact that your God is a creation of evil men. Christians are insane."
oh so you think I am right about the evil in the world. Now understand this: God does NOT impose himself on people.
by Rin on September 19th, 2009
people are free to believe in him or not. that's why there is still evil in the world, because people are free to either abide or not by God's proposals (which by the way, are not exclusive to Christians - everyone should respect life, and not kill, or take what is not theirs, or respect their elderly, be faithful to their partners, be jealous, bear false witness etc... - see the ten comandements).
by Rin on September 19th, 2009
@Anonymous... did anyone contradict the fact that the bible was not written by man? that's why it was written with a culture of 2000 years ago in mind. if it was written today, i think it would mention the internet, iphones, ipods and the like. but at those times, there were nomads, mules and sheep. however, it is a special book because God instilled in the writers of the book the message to convey, then let the writers use their own skills to write out that message.
.
bleh... you don't want to understand, neither of you.
by Rin on September 19th, 2009
So are you saying that the old testament is invalid? I know it is, but is that what you are saying? If so, then why haven't the church leaders disregarded it and stopped printing it? Evil is in the eyes of the perceiver. Most people will agree that harming a child, especially a newborn infant is evil. Other more insane people will try to justify it as righteous, usually those who are child molesters or Christians. Why should anyone even bother trying to get to know a mythological being who murdered children, didn't bother to encourage woman's rights, encouraged slavery and racism for thousands of years? Tell me son, why? So you say that is all in the past. Who is your God's savior? Oh shit, did your God make mistakes? Oh he's perfect. Wait a minute. This doesn't add up. This is what a sane person would be thinking right now.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 19th, 2009
rin ,,, many say the bible is the word of god . --- also those links above included some new testament also .
by The Anonymous Witch on September 19th, 2009
O, good grief, LORD Gorgeous! (lol!) First you are talking about how there is no "God" and then in the next comment you are saying "spirits" and "powers" from the prayers of believers are "haunting you" to believe as they do....Get real, my friend. You are haunting yourself, just as you "haunt" religious threads like this. Not one forced you here...or even invited you. You invited yourself. And even if old Judaic or even Christian scriptures are not all literally true, how does that negate the existence of God? Have you read Hindu, Zoroastrian, Buddhist, or Taoist scriptures? Would it not make sense to say that if these are not true, then there is no God, rather than focus on the Judaic or Christian?
by Tom 47 is back in his bear COAT on September 19th, 2009
I think you are simply at war with yourself over Christian beliefs. Why? Because you are a westerner and all the religion you have ever been exposed to is Judaeo-Christian. You have issues with it, so you are now "anti-religion". I am a "Christian", George, but I also have issues with Christianity as it is practised by many. That does not shake my faith in the slightest, however.
by Tom 47 is back in his bear COAT on September 19th, 2009
all and all you cant use christianity to prove christianity .. "it's true cause god said so ".. the whole way your rules are written are to beat compitition . just like a cola war .. (smile) There is no competition with me, Anonymous, because I know there is only one God. And I have my own views about what "Satan" is. I have even seen him/it, myself. I have seen him in the mirror. I have seen him in the eyes and faces of those who offered me an easy way to "get rich" or get anything I wanted by just a "little" compromising of my values. I have been tempted many times...and continue to be. All of us are...all the time. Jesus was. "You don't have to do this, you know...You can make yourself King of the World without having to die,..especially so miserably"..."Get out of my face, Satan"...

Ah, but then the missionaries come down our road on a periodic basis, refusing to leave our private road, and harassing every person they find. The religious send me unwanted mail to sift through and filter out. They are not happy just worshipping their own foolish god. They must convince others that their god is the only god, the one true god.
The religious are not willing to be happy that THEY will never practice acts they consider to be bad. (Abortion, birth control, homosexuality, take your pick.) They want to make these acts unlawful for EVERYONE, and are willing to commit murder for this.
So why is is so bloody difficult for the religious to leave us alone? The knife cuts both ways. Yes, we also live in a free country, where we should not be subjected to someone taking our precious time to convert us to their religion, to force us to follow their beliefs.

And because many make Christian holidays into a commercial events, that does not invalidate the Faith. I do not "celebrate" Halloween or Easter. And I know the winter solstice is not when Jesus was born. So do most others. But, it is as good a time to celebrate it as any other,...because we don't know. And the evergreen tree is as good a symbol as any other,...because it does not not "die" in the winter. There is nothing wrong with old seasonal celebrations...as long as you know what it is. And who "forces" you to follow their beliefs, sawdust? And I get unwanted mail all the time from organizations and political groups I do not agree with. They do not cost me much time. They go into the trash can as soon as I go through my mail.

Tom, you have made some good points. If you were an atheist, I would have respect for you, but since you are christian, I see you as the worst of christians because you have shown some intellect (which is rare among your christian kind) but you still subscribe to the christian belief. We don't need religion to have morals. Christianity is a clever system created by intelligent people for a selfish purpose, camouflaged with just enough truth to make it all seem credible. Anonymous, I agree with everything you have said as usual.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 19th, 2009
Christianity is a disease of the mass human psych. Years from now, people will look back and think of Christ as another mythological creation of the human mind.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 19th, 2009
tom , even halloween was taken from us . "the church" wanted to compete with the pagans , and they dressed up as dead saints hence "all saints / souls day ... also the reason for blood in costumes .
the pope (i cant remember which one ) even changed the date to fall on the same as our in attempt to overshadow ours. . it's stolen goods .

so everyone here admits that christianity has killed , lied , cheated , stole , etc... etc... what have we done (witches , wiccans , pagans ). --- and please dont say worship YOUR devil , we were around hundreds of years before you invented him. witchcraft has nothing to do with him/ it.
by The Anonymous Witch on September 19th, 2009
Anonymous, I don't think you could call Halloween, (Sawain) a "stolen" holiday. It never caught on in Christianity. It is still a very pagan festival, as is Easter (Ishtar). What do bunnies, chicks, and coloured eggs have to do with Jesus's suffering and death? "Madam, methinks thou doeth protest too much". In fact, I would say Christian celebrations have taken very much a back seat in recent times. And with all the stupid inanity, porn, and crassness on TV today, why are some programs on strictly religious channels being bashed? What is the scare? Don't you know when you have won?

Paul of Tarsus is a fictional character.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 19th, 2009
And Anonymous, why could not pagan Rome have simply let Judea continue to worship their own god in peace? Why did they think it necessary that they must accept the pagan gods of Europa and worship the Emperor as well? ...and in their own Temple? And why were Christians burned alive and thrown into circuses to be food for lions for the entertainment of the citizens? Because they would not "come out and play with the gods" on festivals...and they also refused to worship a degenerate mother-murderer as a god. Pagans had no problem with this. They were very "liberal" in their religions...as they are today...except when it comes to Christians...(smile).

tom ..my problem is ,,many people think easter , xmas , halloween etc... are mainstream holidays , and have no idea . this is the doing of the church . the lies still affect us .
and dont get me wrong , i am not directing this at you . the question was generalized ,(people,).. (,as are my answers

tom again , witchcraft is one of many pagan faiths . no lion tossing here .

"Paul of Tarsus is a fictional character": George, if you are interested in ancient fiction, I recommend Josephus, "The Judean War". That is almost pure fiction. So is much of "Caesar's Gallic Wars", by Julius Caesar. And Gibbon's "The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire" is a masterful work of invention ..and wishful thinking..in many areas. Gibbon had agendas out the arse...and he was trying to implant his views of Empire onto the Britain of his time. He was preaching...and inventing..all the time. Much of Herodotus, "the Father of History", is pure hearsay. He had no validation for much of what he wrote. Pliny I and Pliny II were aristocrats and politicians. Don't look for anything derogatory to any of the Emperors they toadied to at the time. Tacitus is also interesting to read, and he is one of my favorites, but he was also a great exaggerator and he also had his agendas....So, what are you getting at, Tom? What I am saying is that the writers of the gospels and the Acts and the other books of the early church are as or more believeable to me, with all their flaws and discrepancies, than any of the "histories" of the time. I can read them and sift the wheat from the chaff very easily, because I have studied them intensively. I doubt that you have, so I am gentle with you. (smile).

God is a joke but demons and spirits are as real as you and I. Now THAT is funny.
by Cowtipper on September 19th, 2009
I thought it a bit humorous, myself, Cowtipper...(lol) However, there is this little polter (grimmlin) who likes to sneak into my shop room and hide my tools from me and tie all the electrical cords into knots. I know it is him, but as long as he sticks to harmless things, I don't worry. I think he must have come with my family from Ireland. My granny blamed a lot of things on him.
by Tom 47 is back in his bear COAT on September 19th, 2009
The Demons are extraterrestrial. The spirits are souls with out physical bodies. You call me crazy because I believe in less popular things, but you believe in Gods who you have never met. At least I have actually seen and interacted with the things I believe in. I have studied the bible, for over 5 years, almost on daily basis. It s a load of bullshit. Paul, Jesus, Yahweh, John the baptist and the 12 disciples are all fictional characters. I don't know what you have been studying, but you would know the truth if you really looked for it. Even though you have shown you have the ability to be a smart individual Tom, you are still hooked by the bait called faith. I laugh at you because you are like a 17 year old young man who is still trying to graduate elementary school. Wise Christians are the worst kind. They bring the most shame to their religion.

hummm ...
by The Anonymous Witch on September 19th, 2009
(Bows head in shame) I confess, I have studied much more than most of my fellow "Christians". I am not a "Fundamentalist" as the term is used today. I do not believe the book of Genesis is literally true. I accept the basic theory of evolution. (evolution IS creation, however) God began formulating and working with a small band of nomads some four thousand years ago in Mesopotamia,..who were lead by a patriarch named Abraham (or another desert nomad patriarch with the same name,..smile). Yes, I think this is probably true. Were these people the only ones who were seeking the "truth"? No, many others were as well...under the teachings of many very enlightened individuals. Were these other teachers "inspired"? Yes. So what was different about the little nomad tribe of the Middle East? Nothing, except that they were destined to be in a certain time and place. They settled at the crossroads of a great world stage. World powers would walk over them, toss them about.
by Tom 47 is back in his bear COAT on September 19th, 2009
They were tossed and kicked about often...but they never lost their identity...never. And they never lost sight of one "Thing"...Their God. He was the only God,..there were no others. Nothing that ever happened to them broke that conviction. Tough people,...very tough. Their secular leaders were often crap...bad decisions...degenerates...but, there were the prophets,...always the prophets..."Thus sayeth the LORD!!" The prophets were the leaders of Israel...always. It is no wonder or coincidence why this people survived ...even to this day. And it is no coincidence why the faith I espouse was born from them. End of sermon.
by Tom 47 is back in his bear COAT on September 19th, 2009
Okay. Fundamentalist Christians are some of the greatest fools of humanity today. I still believe that Abraham is a fictional character. His purpose was to create a thought form. That thought form relies on faith. Your God is fictional, but what it represents is a collection of psychic power. A thorough study of the occult will reveal its significance. Their intention with this thought form is to aide their quest for world domination. In other words, God is a servant of the Jewish people. The unknowing Gentiles are their servants. To break free from it all you will need to realize that the Jewish/Christian God is not a real God, but a creation of men, sustained by the belief and faith (psychic energy), and obedience of unknowing believers.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 19th, 2009
Steps have been taken purposely to make the biblical crap seem real. It is not God who makes prophecies come true but evil men with much power in the world. God is just their tool to control the minds and the power of the people. Their plans will not succeed, but if they did, the veil would be dropped and people would know that Christianity is a hoax because they would have no more use for the spell. There would be no resistance to worry about because they would have all the power, the material wealth and the weapons. We are headed towards a one world Jewish ruled communism but they will not win. The Gentiles will wake up before it is too late.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 19th, 2009
If there is a "God", George (and I know there is) then He/It is neither "Jewish" nor "Christian". It is simply GOD. And if you know the "occult", George, where do your demons and spirits come from? I can say with the same plainness and certainty that you have invented them in your own "psyche". They fulfill a "need" you have that you are not just a random piece of crap in the wind,...but that you can have a "role" in your own destiny and these "spirits" can help you. Tell me, George,..given they existed...why would they? Why would they give a damn about you or any other little two-legged ape?
by Tom 47 is back in his bear COAT on September 19th, 2009
Some sorcerers believe that Demons are manifestations of their minds, tools at their disposal. I have tried that form of magick before and it has served me very well. The thing is, I have actually met Demons in person, well more like on the astral plane of existence. I know without a doubt that they are real, not just manifestations of my mind. I have chosen to give up the first system of magick out of respect for the Demons who have been so good to me. Now we have mutual fulfilling relationships. How can you claim that the Demons are manifestations of my mind, but that your God is real, the only true God? That's silly. See you believe in things that are supernatural. I don't even believe in the supernatural. I believe in what's real, things I can prove to myself. You work off of faith (assumptions), and I work off of evidence. All things can be explained with science, including the things you and I believe in, although the advancement of science is up to par with where it should be. At the same time, I do not know all things.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 19th, 2009
*advancement of science is 'not' up to par.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 19th, 2009
True. We at least agree on that. Science certainly cannot explain everything. The best scientists admit this openly. It is only amateurs and dilettantes who claim that "Science" has all the answers. Even Hawkings says he cannot prove his string theory or the origin of the Universe. The Big Bang requires much theoretical science that even Hawkings will not attempt.

Tom Tom... you're a breath of fresh air! Hats off to you :)
by Rin on September 20th, 2009
I am humbled by your comment, Rin, but it is not my statements,...not really. It comes from many others who have pondered the same things and written extensively. C.S. Lewis, Karl Barth, Lewis Mumford. I have just "absorbed" much from them...perhaps with a bit of questioning of my own.....I cannot "prove" my faith to anyone. It comes from within me and from experiences I have had which left me with no other choice but to believe....I would like to give others a description of what I experienced...but I cannot.
by Tom 47 is back in his bear COAT on September 20th, 2009
Its probably best to keep it to yourself.
by Don Gorgeous George on September 20th, 2009

by Rin on September 20th, 2009
Say what??
by Don Gorgeous George on September 20th, 2009
Rin, you've never been attacked nor ridiculed by me.
As a Pagan, I get hit on not only by Christians, but also by atheists, Deists, agnostics, Jews, and whom you will.
"concrete examples of what Christians are doing to try and convert you to Christianity"
I've had all the instances you list, and a bunch more to boot. A devout Baptist lad once pulled me off the bus and punched me in the face because I was going to see a movie ON SUNDAY!
Now, I have to admit, I told him, "I'm not Christian; I don't have to believe in your Jesus." But it was still rude and overbearing of him.
by Sandman on September 28th, 2009
No, Sandman, I have never been attacked nor ridiculed by you. And you haven't been attacked nor ridiculed by me, ever, either. But I have been attacked and ridiculed by atheists. There goes the generalisation again. Just because someone does it, doesn't mean all those like him/her do it. If everyone lets others live in peace, we'd all be a happy world, even if we have different views on faith. Christians are not saints, but neither are atheists. We all have our faults, and we need to start accepting that not everyone else but us is right.
by Rin on September 28th, 2009
The point I tried to make is that instead of atheists keeping on asking questions which might irritate believers, and obviously, vice versa, ie believers asking questions that might irritate atheists (meaning these questions are not made to learn something but to highlight faults in the other's thinking and are made only to devalue and critisize badly), people should stop trying to see the differences which divide them and instead accept the other's opinion and respect it.
by Rin on September 28th, 2009
Questions like this (and the one in which I originally posted my answer to) are an insult to believers, and certainly are not made with the intention of learning something about religion. It is not a question of what people believe, but basic manners and ethiquette... and obviously, respect. And this, from both sides of course.
by Rin on September 28th, 2009
ps... sorry made a mistake... in my first post of these last three, ending senctence should be '... that not everyone else but us is WRONG.' sorry again if you were mislead.
