One way you can try is to relax your body one part at a time, starting with your toes, then your ankles, etc, slowly relaxing your way up. Usually when you get to your head, you will be asleep. this will also show you where your tension area is. Make sure to relax your eyes like you were asleep too.

Take a melatonin supplement. Your body produces melatonin, but sometimes not enough.

Eat cheese! It's an 'old wives tale' that eating cheese before bed makes you have really vivid dreams, but, my personal expierence is it can help you sleep! Have some cheese on toast/crackers for supper and a warm drink, try milk or cocoa, but, not tea/coffee! (CAFFEINE= NO SLEEP) Maybe it's all that dairy but I find, especially if I'm really tired, that I sleep like a baby. Give it a shot.

In the afternoon, get some sun on your skin, while going for a walk. Get your pulse above 100.
This will help with circadian rythm.

A teaspoon of honey on a graham cracker usually
works for me. Also, do you smoke or drink caffienated
drinks? Limit caffiene to one cup in the morning only.
Try not to smoke for a few hours before bed.

Instead of counting sheep, I think of all the different flavoured ice creams there are and ones I'd like to make up.

    I nod off everytime. ;)

I don't know if these are universal, by they are from personal experience with the same issue, long ago...

Learn to meditate - specifically, clearing your mind. Learn to think about nothing and to do it on command.

Find ways to deal with stress. Whatever it might be - more exercise or whatever.

So you mean insomnia, which I also suffer from. In the nights, I lay down and kept on changing sides, it seems there's still a long distance from the land of Nod, with myriad matters cluster in my mind, making me awake for hours. I heard that drinking a glass of milk 30 minutes before going to bed helps boosting the mood to sleep. It contains a kind of chemical which acts as mind soothing (sorry I forgot the name). Banana also contains this kind of chemicals. Another one is soaking your feet in a basin of warm water before bed, I myself had not tried it out.

I usually read, that helps me go to sleep. Sometimes I take Valerian Root tablets or capsules and that helps too. I'm sorry you have trouble sleeping:=(
