  • Yes, if they simply withdrew and came home they would be booted out the army with a disshonourable disscharge, this sort of thing is also against army rules and as such they woulc face a court marshal and possible prison sentance.
  • Yes, not only would they get kicked out of the army/navy/air force, but they would lose any benefits they have, as well as the fact that its almost impossible to withdraw any faster than 2-3 months at the least.
  • Yes, it's called honor. Semper Fi.
  • Yes-a complete lack of guts. US soldiers don't believe in anything (except their monthly pay cheque). A few have had the courage to quit-most don't.
  • Yes. Prison.
  • For one thing soilders don't look at what they do as something they can just walk away from because they don't agree with what they have to do. They know if they do they leave their country vulnrable and people will die because of it. That's what stops them from going on strike or withdrawing and coming home. Not the fear of court marshalls and dishonourable discharges. If they did that it would leave a stain on the reputation of their service and our country as well. They don't stand for Old Glory to be stained for any reason.
  • It's called desertion and cowardness and results are court martial and shot in time of war
  • I think the inate fear most of us - in and out of the Armed forces have - of the anarchy such an action would cause society in general to descend into. Also - the first person in line would have to have nerves of steel AND be able to convince everyone behind him that he was not merely a lunatic leading them to destruction.... However, on that last point, the person who starts the wars manages that just fine in a way... OK, my head is hurting now....
  • Uk troops have no right to strike. That's the last thing any fearful government would give them (and all governments are fearful to some extent of their military). They can leave the services, but doing so without giving proper notice would lose them their pensions, homes, etc. It would also constitute desertion, which is punishable by a court martial followed by a prison sentence. As others have stated, supporting their mates is another powerful bond which most are unwilling to break. In addition to this, how would they get back? It's a long walk and I don't think they'd find many people eager to give them a lift until they got to Italy.
  • Even if you get drafted, when you find yourself in the boots of soldier, you do what soldiers do. Quiting and running is not what soldiers do, there is the death penalty for desertion. Speak when spoken to, shoot when shot at, run when they sound retreat, till then it's mud, blood and crud.
  • Besides death? That's treason you are talking about lol. Did you know that people in the military can't get a tattoo, you know why? Because your body belongs to the governement, thus you can't damage government property.
  • It is called a Mutiny. A federal offence with a penalty of up to 30 years in prison. It could also be called Desertion...which is punishable by death. So that is one of the many reasons we dont just "walk-away". I stay in because i enjoy serving my country....;)
  • It might interest you to know that thousands of troops actually have withdrawn (deserted)from the military since the Iraq war began. According to newly released government documents the number has risen sharply over the last four years. The trouble with that method is that they cannot live in "normal" society after such an act. They have to live as outcasts and criminals.
  • I would like to remind you that it's usually the US doing the invading. You always ask, "what if some bully invades? America will be there to step in..blah..blah." Have you not noticed that the US is the bully? My country was invaded by the US. Name one other country with a history of invasion even close to that of America. Since 1945 name a country which has invaded at least 3 other countries and killed at least , say, 4 million people. Good luck .
  • I have 2 passports, There is one government which considers me its citzen, but no, I don't consider myself a citizen of any country. I am aa human being. I refuse to recognise the petty boundaries of governments who merely use patriotism to further their own goals. My allegiance is to mankind, solidarity and peace-not to a flag, a geographical location or a government.
  • Yes. Love of their respective country.
  • I disagree. Mindset does not come from nationality. I have more in common with a Indigenous farmer in Bolivia than I do with the men in the government of my country. I am a communist, not because my government is (I didn't even know my government was communist until I left-its more Buddhist than political)but because that's what I believe in
  • hmm if they went on strike they would be sitting ducks out there. and how exactly would they get home if they just one day decided theyd had enough. they joined the army they signed on the dotted line. they must see it through if not why join up in the first place. oh and they been sent to jail for descertion.
  • its not like a regular 9-5 they would be quart marshalled!
  • did it for him now give him the points Avatar stormy Sep, 18 2007 at 10:03 PM That's right the soldiers signed up knowing what they were getting themselves into and they fight to keep our country safe. If they don't believe in what there doing then they should have never enlisted.
  • Why would any fine patriot quit while winning a war against evil? Or for that matter EVER quit? Never. If you are an American Hallib, you do not deserve to be.
