Does anyone still say "I'll give you a tinkle" when they mean they will call you on the phone?

A friend from Bristol used it and I thought it was strange, too.

I can imagine. I do the same when my cousin asks for "pop" (soda) or my wife calling ALL cola "Coke" and then being disappointed when I bought her Coca-Cola instead of Pepsi.

Yep, ''I'll give you a bell'' is more common I'd say. It always seems to be sweaty old workmen who are fitting our electrics who say they'll give us a tinkle.

It's an old English expression as my friend from Bristol used it. I did a double take when he first said it. (He's 70 years old now)

Well, I can see that. But then again, saying 'I'll give you a wee' wouldn't make any sense. So I'd assume whoever I was tinkling knew I wasn't gonna turn up with a cup of wee for them.

We take the piss, as in taking the mickey out of someone. We go for a piss (or a tinkle)
