Depends on the med. Whenever your doc prescribes a new med, he or she should always go over the risks and benefits so you can decide if the benefits outweigh the risks. When you fill it at the pharmacy, you should get a sheet of paper listing the use of the pill, what shape, size, and color it is, what side effects may or may not happen, what side effects would make you stop taking it, and even possibly how to counter side effects. Never hurts to ask the pharmacist if they have any suggestions about taking the medication. One time when I asked a pharmacist this when I was prescribed an antibiotic, she said "eat yogurt half an hour before you take it. It will keep you from getting diarrhea." As well, it varies for each prescription what you should/should not eat/drink with it. Try to shop at the same pharmacy so you they can see if your new medicine will interact with anything else you are already taking. Make sure the person prescribing your medicine knows what else you are taking, as well as what allergies you have.
