I am not sure if I understand your question. Are you trying to say that you should get paid for answering questions on AB - or don't have to pay your cable bill? I don't think it could work. Most people here make this for fun. I assumed also that "maxs-axes" could be you and his comment gave me some more clues. I had thought first that under "people searches", you meant doing some research work to answer people's questions on AB. But now, I think that you are talking here about some internet portals where you can make some "people searches", for instance looking for information about people in a genealogy portal, or in a classroom portal, but where you have to register and also pay to get some or more than basic information. Is this what you were meaning? Assuming this, I would answer that in the meantime, some of the information that you can find on the internet is no more free as it has been in the beginning of the internet. To get a part of the information on some sites, you are requested to register, and sometimes also to pay. This applies also, for instance, to the download of some music files. I also found many sites that you cannot use with all the possibilities without a registration (Answerbag is one of them) There is still a huge amount of free information on the internet, but no more everything is free. So you have the choice between paying or trying to find the information elsewhere on the internet. In some cases, you will also find some internet access providers who propose some contents free for their members, but having to be paid for non members.
