  • I once worked for a guy out of his house and he had snakes, lizards, a rat and a cat that all ran around the house together. I had to watch my step.
  • Live cat and dead cat. When I was a kid, we had a really snooty cat that hated everyone and looked at everyone, human and animal as if they were the scum of the earth. This cat lived pretty much forever and during her reign we also looked after several other lesser cats. Queen cat treated these courtiers with much disdain - hissing at them from a distance and punching them when they came too close or tried to make friends. She was evil. Then when these lesser cats died (having naturally shorter lifespans than Queen cat) we buried them in the garden and Queen cat would suddenly get really depressed and go into mourning and sit on their graves all night in vigil. As if somehow by dying they had perhaps ascended to the same plateau of being as her majesty and earned her respect.

  • We had a cockatiel that loved one particular cat and would try to make a nest in this fur whenever they were both on the bed together. And we also had a goat and a rooster that loved each other.
  • My sister had a dashund that was friends with one of her horses. The horse would get down do the dog could jump up onto its back and ride around all day.
  • My cat's has died now, but when she was alive, she was perfectly friendly with the dog and the rats... the dog isn't bothered about the rats at all, she barely even sniffs them when they run under her nose... bit of a stereotypical food chain going on: dog - cat - rat x
  • When I was a kid we bought a herd of goats and they came with 2 dogs. It was explained that the dogs were put on a goat as soon as they were born. They were raised on goats milk and were not handled by humans. The dogs came to think of themselves as goats. They were grown of course when we got them and we put out dog food for them but were never to pet them or play with them. They stayed with the goats at all times, protecting them from coyotes and bobcats and such. Each evening the dogs herded the goats back into the pen and slept with them. I know you asked about pets and this technically does not qualify but I think it is interesting.
