  • I dont think you have to, but it is recumended. Atleast it was when I installed it on my floors, but my floors were cement. If you have old hardwood floors why not get them sanded and varnished instead? It will look ALOT better in the long run!
  • I think you have to use underlaying for an laminated floor coving a hardwood floor. You might want to check with your local hardware store or one that speciallize in floor coverings. They can tell you how to lay any type of floor coving correctly.
  • if the old floor is uneven I would recommend a filler of some type. Otherwise, you use a foam underlay under laminate floors. Laminate floors are a free floating floor system. They aren't acutally attached to anything. If the old floor is even and flat, you don't need to put anything on top.
  • Yes, you should. The underlay is not just to even the floor, but more importantly to damp down the sound and feel of footsteps. Without underlay the floor will feel unyielding underfoot instead of a little springy as it should, and will sound very loud and clacky.
