It is best to take the 6 hours of sleep. If you sleep from period to period, you may lose the additional time of sleep, and may become less aware around you.

lol I would sleep for 2 hours then some other time sleep for another 2-3 hours. It was not bad at least no effects that I know of besides my girlfriend saying I don't sleep. haha I say would because she told me to get more rest.

You are talking about polyphasic sleep, they actually had a 'Seinfeld' episode about it. They showed the character (Kramer) acting goofy and sleep deprived plus clueless about how to use the additional time. I don't think I would never be able to do it, I recently had an emotionally trying time and slept for about 2-4 hours a night at mostly 2 hour intervals. I really did have a lot of extra time but it made work seem so dull and the day dragged... anyway, here's a useful link with a really good breakdown on the experience: http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2005/10/polyphasic-sleep/ He actually gives a positive review on the experience and in fact did it for almost 6 months. As Scifi mentions below the naps train you to go into REM sleep almost immediately so you have 20 minutes of REM each time.

Better to do straight hours of sleep than breaking it up. You need to stay in REM sleep for as long as possible and not segment it. Sometimes when you don't get good blocks of sleep you either don't go into good REM sleep or your stay there isn't long enough to benefit the body.
