  • Yes i think the humans invented God to explain their existence thats why there are so many religions and Gods according to the cultures that invented them.
  • Religion arises from a necessity for explanation. Greek mythology arose because the human mind at the time did not have the faculty to comprehend the natural world scientifically. It also arises from a necessity to organize doctrine and beliefs, and perpetuate those beliefs. I, personally, am against organized religion because of it's attempt to devalue the individual. However, I do support spirituality, and am very respectful of other people's views. =)
  • Humans are naturally hierarchical. It is in our nature to have a "pecking order", to know who we are above and who we are below. Of course, we are all trying to climb that order - we would all rather be higher than lower. But nonetheless, we are used to the idea of a boss. And also to a bosses boss. In fact, if our boss is not that good (and few humans are all good, and those who are rarely make it to be boss), we want our boss to have a boss who will keep him/her in line. And we want that boss to have a boss that will keep... and so on. And we want the very topmost boss of all to be really, really good, so s/he can keep all the others in line, all the way down to poor little us. And even top human bosses like to have a boss, provided that they are somewhere out there and not interfering day by day, and are are really, really good. So we call that boss God (or Gods), and get quite uncomfortable with the idea that the buck stops with a mere human.
  • He probably originated as the answer to questions we had no answer for. Now that science has answered many of the questions that he was the answer for (e.g. lightning, seasons, earthquakes, plagues, etc.) The entity god has been relegated to the few remaining questions that we have no answer for (e.g. the origin of life, the undiscovered country beyond death, the prupose of our existance, etc.) . In the future when the answers to those questions are foung he will be again delegated to the next set of mysteries and so on. Humans will never have all the answers so there will always be someone who will invent an explaination.
  • Without a God, there is no Prime Mover. Without a Prime Mover, there is no universe to exist in. But let's play the game. Religion plays on our initial individual childhood experience. When you're born, your parents care for you. This imprints us with the concept of an all loving, all caring God. As we grow, we feel the need for this Caretaker even when we BECOME that caretaker. Religion provides that caretaker, both in the form of a God who can do anything at all, and a priest who can deal with your more immediate needs.
