  • I'm sorry to fail you in this question, Eli. I hope i'm wrong, but expect that you won't get a realistic response. With all the different diacritical, accent and modifying marks in the dozens of languages using Roman script, they must number in the hundreds if not thousands. Adding mathematical symbols on all levels complicates the problem more. Then the question arises, What alphabets are similar to English's? How do we judge this? While we use a version of Roman script, Greek may be considered similar because the symbols resemble the Roman and have closely related values.('Alphabet' derives from alpha and beta the first 2 Greek letters. Aleph and beth start the Hebrew system which, like Arabic, is similar to Roman to some degree.) Cyrillic (Russian style) script is also 'similar' after you learn it, though it seems very foreign at first glance. If anyone can give you a reasonable number, i will applaud loudly.
