If the infection is antibiotic resistant, the lungs are one of the worst places for it to reside. It can continue thrive in the moist environment and cause a condition called sepsis which travels through the blood and can cause death fairly quickly. Pnuemonia itself can be fatal. Tell your family member to be extremely vigilant in following the protocols established by her physician.
