I think that it is the best contraceptive out there! I have had one for approximatley 7 years. The only drawback that I have found is the pain on insertion and removal..and potential bladder effects (gyno said that he didn't think that my bladder infection was caused from the insertion. I beg to differ since I walked in fine for my appointment and out with an infection!) nonetheless, it has given me no troubles..cept after you first get it insterted you can feel it settling and positioning itself..a creepy kind of feeling but it passes

The IUDs can cause hormone imbalance. I have had the IUD for two years. After the first year, I started having yeast infections every month, which is a symptom of hormone balance. Then got hives for no reason, yet another symptom. Then a month ago I started getting chest pain, numbness in my left arm, heart palpitations, and I was so tired. I went to the ER six times and they ran test and could not figure out what was wrong. Didn't seem to be my heart, not my thyroid, so I was at a loss, I looked up IUD and chest pain, palpitations, numbness. I started reading endless stories of girls with the same symptoms. I had it removed by my PCM last Friday, he said it was totally possible that the IUD could be to blame. I went to my GYN yesterday and he said the same thing. Yet, you are never told of any of the symptoms before placement.
