  • dont worry too much. it takes a while before the anti depressants will work. some are addictive and some are not. but the doctor will never just stop the meds he or she will cut them down slowly so you dont get withdrawals or anything. anti depressants work different for different people so you can never really tell if they are going to work for you. if you dont mid me asking what as she been prescribed and i might be able to give you some more info.
  • Anti-depressants aren't addictive AT ALL. They aren't narcotics.
  • I have taken and tried many different antidepresants and the only one that I have not experienced withdrawal symtoms is Prozac. Paxil and Effexor are really bad when you stop. Searh the web for what ever your friend is taking.(example: "paxil withdrawal")
  • Yes, most anti-depressants will cause a discontinuation symptoms and it's terrible but it's not permanent and if the doctor prescibed them, they're probably needed. Find out what drug she is on and there are a ton of forums online that tell how to get off them (most doctors have no clue what it's like) and there are also books out to help. Prozac also apparently doesn't have the same type of discontinuation symptoms. Sometimes a doctor will wean you off one SSRI with Prozac and then you can wean off Prozac without any problems.
