Question

I had a brown tail moth caterpillar on my neck now it is red, swollen and welting-up, what should I do? I find lots of web sites telling me it is toxic but not what to do.

Antihistamines - external cream or pills. Preferably the cream.

If this was a fuzzy caterpillar most likely you've been exposed to the barbed hairs it's left behind on your neck. If this should happen again, you will want to carefully remove them, and maybe even have someone inspect the site with a magnifying glass to make sure you got 'em all.

Calamine lotion, an antihistmaine cream or orally (benedryl), cool cloths, or, if it is severe, see a doctor. It should only last 2-3 days.

From what this website says, apply calamine lotion, and leave it be (no scratching!). If it lasts past 2-3 days, see a doctor.
