  • The colors are just dyes. Buy a high grade of activated charcoal carbon such as Marineland Brand. Buy a bag for the carbon and place one cup in the bag, tie it off and bury it in the gravel near the base of a lift tube on top of the undergravel filter. If you have an outside filter, place the carbon bag in the filter.
  • As Retro said, ask your local shop owner for a recommendation an some activated charoal. You can also get a resin type that will remove nitrites and ammonia. Regular water changes are a must. Good luck!
  • Are you doing partial water changes every week..about 10% of the water...make sure to condition it first.
  • Hello; All the above answers are correct. You have a high load of DOC's or disolved organic compounds. You need to do frequent water changes - 3 - gallons a week will do on a 20-gallon tank once the DOC's are lowered. I would change half the water for the next 4 weeks and then a weekly schedule with the addition of activated carbon after the first water change to remove toxic doc's. The carbon should last from one to three months depending on the fish load and feeding. Use as much carbon as the filter will hold --- the more the better. OFM
  • WATER CHANGES :)
