  • Those of us who feel it is so important to be "right" simply don't get it...there is no "right"...it changes constantly/continually for everyone..what was "right" for me when I was 18 is no longer "right"..I have lived, experienced and learned these things..it takes time...being "right" is only a temporary illusion..it is virtually meaningless in the context of the lives we each live.If we give up the "need" to be right, that would be a very good step to living the lives we are supposed to be living..too much energy is lost on trying to prove how "right" we are. Let's rather use it on trying to understand one another. :)
  • Because we tend to confuse or mix the concept of "being right" with the image we have of ourselves. When someone questions the fact that we might not be right, we tend to take it personally and in the worst case as an aggravation or attack. Most reasonable and objective people know there's a difference and don't over-react, in my opinion.
  • Because we need to feel good about ourselves ( SOME NOT ALL ) and if we are found to be wrong, we tend to belittle ourselves even more - it is a very selfish act
  • Being "right" preserves false identity: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/369608
  • It is because your thoughts are attributed greater weight of integrity and respect when you are right; you tend to lose this when you are often wrong.
  • Because some people refuse to admit when they are wrong.
