Chardonnay (spelling?) is something you can't go wrong with

Red: Syrah or Shiraz, White: Pinot Gris or Grigio. They are a bit on the dry side, but not too much. They are all fairly light on the pallete. Perfect summer wines. If you are feeling adventurous and want to try something unusual, there are several red (mostly Shiraz based) sparkling wines (that's right, red champagnes) that have been coming out of Australia over the past few years.

Something white and bubbly, like a spumante or champagne. And, um, do you have a brother? :)

zinfindel of some sorts, chilled, fruity, lightly sweet. Great for a hot summer night.

Fetzer Gewurztraminer or a Riesling are good 'non dry' wines, coming from someone who prefers them dry.

For a red wine a Beaujolais or Pinot Noir (Burgundy if it is a French wine.) If you want a white wine so that you can chill it since it is SO hot right now a Riesling (Trimbach and Hugel are good brands) or Pinot Grigio. Also, a rose might be really nice and a little different and should also be chilled. For a really outstanding dessert wine which is really really sweet try an ice wine. (You have to drink it in small amounts though.)
