I've taken hour showers before and never had it go out, but it's a huge water tank- one for the whole floor- But if someone, even in other apartments uses the water the pressure drops and it gets colder until they stop.

in the summer i don't know, i've never had it run out in warm months. in the winter it seems to be about 25 - 30 minutes.

We don't have a shower built yet in our house but at the shower next door where 2 families are living (about 5 adults) the water never gets cold. It does turn freezing cold or burning hot if someone turns on the water anyplace else in the house when you are showering. But you can adjust it and it's fine. We tried to suggest that they put in a bigger feeder pipe to solve this little inconvenience but no, they will suffer:-)

we have a huge tank but have it on a timer to be off when we're at work so it only goes cold on the rare occasion when forget to turn it on on the weekend.

The building I live in is on the community heat/hot water grid, which uses waste heat from the local power plant. Therefore, the hot water never runs out, unless the city shuts down the system (which they do occasionally to do maintenance). It's the same type of system that the old Battersea Power Station in London used to heat the homes in the Kensington district.
