Help answer this question below.
If a picture is displayed, the computer is not in "Sleep mode". That is just the screan saver. It sounds like you want your monitor to shut off when inactive for a period of time. To do this, do the following:
*Note: This only applies to Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, NT, XP.
1. Right-click anywhere on your desktop that does not have an icon (picture)
2. Lett-click on "Properties"
3. Left-click on the "Screen Saver" tab at the top of box.
4. Left-click on "Power"
5. Left-click on the white bar next to "Turn off monitor:" and choose whichever time length you would like.
6. Left-click on "Apply", then "OK"
The time length you choose is how long untill your monitor will turn off from the last activity you do (this includes moving the mouse).
To turn the monitor back on, simply move the mouse.
You can also choose to turn off the hard disk, or put the computer into true "sleep mode" by following the same directions. Turning off the disk, really isn't that important. It doesn't use enough electricity to be noticeable on your electric bill. The monitor sucks up the most amount of juice.
