  • 33 years ago, i went on a whale watching trip with my elementary school class. i think i saw a blue whale, but to be honest, i cant swear to it. that was a long time ago. nowdays, i am a merchant seaman. and i have seen so many whales, they dont even strike me anymore.
  • Go to Hervey Bay in Australia. Best place in the world. Humpbacks go right up to the boat. Very friendly, acrobatic, curious and intelligent.

  • Went out of Depoe Bay Oregon last year. Followed a pod of whales for over 4 miles. Even got to see a mating pair. The Captain said it was his personal best trip.
  • No .. When I lived in the San Diego area (Ca.), we used to drive to Point Loma, a peninsula on the west side of San Diego Harbor, and watch whales from there. It's quite high and you can see a long way, but I suppose the thrill of having a whale breach next to the boat you are on is missing.
  • Yes, and it was great. We saw migrating whales going down the California coast. And I used to see whales from my home on the beach as they would go north or south. We'd watch for spouts and sometimes breaching.
