I can't say if it's fair without knowing the reasons for the decision. But banning teenagers from shopping alone/loitering is nowhere near the police state/bladerunner scenario you're scared of. Though I'm sure some teens will think it's the end of the world and cry about it.

In my home state, they have banned unattended kids from shopping during school hours. This I can understand. From 4-9 on Friday and Saturday? That's absolutely ridiculous. That's when they CAN go out and spend their money on stuff. The malls that are doing this have no idea what it means to MAKE MONEY. *sigh*

It's because cause have become so unruly when they aren't around their family.

Show me a mall in the United States that DOESN'T draw teenagers. Teens can get rowdy so I understand why they do it, but that strikes me as illegal as hell.

Seems a little harsh. The stupid thing about it is, teens have the most disposable income out of any age group. So banning teens from coming into the mall is cutting off part of their income. Sure, they can still come with their parents or on a school night, but how many of them would want to do that? Friday and Saturday I would think is the prime time for hanging out in the mall, wasting your cash away.

I would have to know what age bracket that falls in as well. I do not think they should ban them, but I CAN see limiting the size of the groups they gather in. I know, at some malls around me, teens will gather in groups of more than a dozen, and when they block aisles, throw food at each other in the food courts, and descend en-mass into a store, it causes problems. Teens, like it or not, are the highest bracket for shoplifting, and when a large group descend on a store, you cannot watch them all. I do see their reasoning.

I live in Missouri (in St. Louis). I know it doesn't seem fair. However, a lot of the teens aren't just going to the malls and shopping. There are a lot of them that get roudy and just wander around the mall being loud and obnoxious and even getting into fights. That, to my understanding, is the reasoning behind the ban. There are lot of parents who are, essentially, using the malls as "babysitters." They are dropping them off to get them out of their hair for a few hours. I realize that not all teens behave badly. But the few bad apples are spoiling the whole bunch.

I'd like to know why they would do this. Doesn't make much sense from any angle that I look at it from.
