  • it depends on when the allies would have engaged. Such as in 1935 when Hitler openly declared rearmement i think the allies could have averted war but if they had stood up to him in the Czech crisis of 1938-39 i expect the war would have still gone ahead but possibly with less blood. The main reason it was so bad was because the allies waited for Germany to make the first move. War Declared: September 1939 France Invaded: May 1940 French Surrender: June 1940

  • Yes. The world was already divided into 2 armed camps. Marshal Petain said after the Versaille Treaty was signed after WW1: "This is not peace. This is an armistice for 20 years." He was off by about 65 days.
