I keep seeing a symbol on cars it could be on a liscense plate or sticker but it is solid black with a blue line through it .....what does it mean

It symbolizes that the person is affiliated with some type of Law enforcement, firefighters have a black with red stripe in the middle. i guess it is to symbolize your status in society as a member of law enforcement. here in New England, you see them everywhere.
