  • It will stop when you train it to, make a high pitched squeal just like dogs do when they are hurt, your puppy will know that it has crossed the line and was playing too rough, that's how we deal with rough puppies at my work (I work in the vet/grooming business) and it works well
  • I stopped my dog from doing that by holding her mouth shut for 10-15 seconds and saying "NO" when she chewed on me. She learned very quickly.
  • Knowpain gave you a very simple solution that DOES WORK, AND is in the language that the puppy UNDERSTANDS! Unfortunately this is a VERY BAD habit to encourage with any pup, dachshunds would be a breed I especially would not encourage it with! This is a very bold tempered breed to start with! Remember, they were bred and created to pop into the hole/nest of a BADGER (a very unfriendly critter...with even a lack of fondness for THEIR OWN kind), and "worry" the snarling, pissed off thing (that outweighs the dog by a fair bit and has claws that can rip the dog up almost as much as the teeth can) until it charges out of the hole after the dog...these little dogs have potentially serious attitude...they need to! It is normal for most puppies to nip when they are babies...plus when they are about 4+ months they start cutting their adult teeth and it's rather uncomfortable, chewing helps. But we do not want to accidentally TRAIN the puppy that nipping or chewing on HUMAN body parts is an acceptable idea. Have an assortment of safe, acceptable puppy toys available (within reach) and substitute one of the pups OWN toys for your hand. Also, if the pup ignores the toy and still goes for you....in addition to yipping, STOP THE GAME, TURN AWAY, IGNORE THE PUPPY for a few moments...NO YELLING or grabbing the muzzle IS NEEDED...ending THE GAME is what Mom dog would do and it is understood by all puppies and dogs as a non-verbal warning. If you have to, say nothing, but get up and remove yourself from reach, turn away, that body language is understood.
