  • I'm not sure how you could put a number on it. I do think most people are very aware of the governments of the former Soviet Union, current China and Cuba, etc. So to varying degrees I suppose most people have some degree of understanding what Communism is. I am aware there are a number of variations on Communism just as there are for Democracy, Dictatorships, Monachies, etc. I do not know to what degree most people understand the nuances of different types of Communism. I think this would be more like a sliding scale than a numerical count.
  • Succinctly, YES.
  • I believe I do but, do you wish to elaborate on YOUR definition?
  • What actualy communism is? What /real/ communism is, not like Cuba or Russia or anything like that? But real, honest, pure communism? Yes, I know very well - I've read the Communist Manifesto and studied it a bit. I acutally had a conversation on this last night with my family... I seemed to be one of the only ones who knew what it was really.
  • What I know is that it is a political system in which no one person has more than the other, everyone is treated equally. Yes? No? I'd love to know if I'm right or not.
  • It's probably hard to say whether most people (here on AB or not) appreciate the intellectual value of Communism or not. Tradition has such a stranglehold sometimes, it's really unfortunate. It's a shame most people see Communism the way propaganda has taught them to see it though, but it's not just the fault of propaganda, in fact it's hardly the fault of propaganda at all. It's the fault of dictators like Stalin and Mao, who have tainted its name by claiming to be Communists when they really weren't at all. The ideology isn't evil! And that should be realized.
  • I have a pretty good understanding of what has been going on in China for the last few centuries..so that aspect of it I think I understand..as far as what Mao, at least, did to the people.
