Help answer this question below.
On Answerbag, we allow our members to flag questions as either "conversational" or "educational". We do this to allow people to see only the types of questions they're really interested in. If you're here to chat or meet people, the "conversational" questions are for you, but if you're here to learn something specific or learn about a topic, the "educational" questions are the way to go. We will be adding filters for questions to the site gradually where we see the need.
We would rather not put specific definitions on "educational" and "conversational" because everyone has their own concept of what these words mean. Because there are no hard rules to say if a question is education or conversational, we're leaving it up you guys to decide!
In my opinion, if there seems to be any knowledge to be gained from the question, then it should be marked educational, if it is a thought provoking or anecdotal question for the purpose of humor or conversation, then it should be conversational.
Educational questions are questions that educate a person about a particular subject. It could be a definition, an event, how to fix something, where to buy something, etc.
Conversational questions tend to be trivial in nature, hypothetical situation type of questions, or more logic type of questions.
I believe those terms are subjective unless you need to know for an educational classified survey.
1) If you want to know why this feature was introduced and how it is supposed to work, read AB-Joel's own answer to this question here:
http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/1140063
2) I noticed that this flagging is not a widely used feature. Many questions get no more than the flagging of the asker, an some not even that.
For this reason, this flagging is also not very reliable.
This means that if you use the "hide conversational questions" checkbox, you could still get a lot of (inacurately flagged) conversational questions and hide a lot of (inacurately flagged) educational questions.
I think that except maybe by asking their questions, most users consider this flagging a loss of time and just don't do it.
2) If you are tired of displaying always a lot of conversational questions on your question lists, try to use the filter to hide conversational questions. There is no filter to hide educational questions.
3) If a question can be "killed" after it has received a couple of accurate answers, it will usually be educational. Conversational question can rarely be "killed" and that is the reason why they get usually the most answers and the most points.
4) If you are not sure which one to choose, you could also not flag it.
The answer may be conversational for you, but it would be educational for me, because I would be in fact learning something I didn't know.
If you flag a question conversational then people can click to hide it. If you want more people to see it, flag it educational so it can't be hidden.
why Education is so important?
there is no clear definition about them.but u can find them in google search ingine sying education vs conversation
I'm not really too certain that anyone is using that option on here.
If the question that is posted is talking about how to do something or accomplish something, it should be educational, if it is just a normal opinion question, then it should be flagged as conversational.
I believe either of those terms are subject to the person asking the question.
i just would like to know peoples opinion...
I want to ask a question, Where I can do that?
it might get too personal and you don't want other people knowing your privacy
If there be nothing to learn from it flag it BS'ing.
not sure
It is feeling, learn other ppl something or is it more smalltalk for Party
I think it could be both !! I would like to know the
answers myself
educational questions you learn some about a topic
I believe that if a question is made to inform, than it is educational, but if it is opiniated, than it is conversational.
If you need to ask that question you are better off flagging it conversational
If you think it's there to bring out opinions etc then it would be conversational and if it's there for specific facts etc then it would be educational.
+5
Education teaches you things. I learn nothing here so this is a conversational question.

Good addition to the site. It's nice that you have a fantastic website but still manage to make it better and add things without messing it up.

Joel, your question got more points than your answer. That seems like a conundrum to me.

recently i forgot to leave the door unlocked for my cleaning girl to get in the morning .she comes early and one day i forgot to leave the door unlocked. after ringing and pounding on the door she told me the thought perhaps i was sick or even dead. about to go down to the building manager for help i woke up and let her in. she was very upset and told me the next time it happened she would give me a spanking. since that time the thought of having her spank me turns me on and i wonder if i should try it. any suggestions?

I don't think this is nessesary. You can tell simply by the text of the question if it's conversational or educational.
