In FL (bay area) we still have lay-a-way at Wal-mart and Target. Heck even at some K-marts too. I didn't know they got rid of them. I've never done it but I imagine it's nice to be able to pay like that, I know we spend a ton of money at Wal-mart.

It is probably gone forever - cost too much for storage and such.

i could never understand lay-a-way... by the time you are finished paying for the outfit and get it, it's out of style....

I doubt it. I worked at walmart when they took it out last year. Their main reason was because they lost more money than made money with it. At christmas time especially there would me like 4 trailors full of stuff people never came for than they would have to take people from there regualar job just to re-shop it all.

With the economy in the toilet, the stores that actually offer layaway are saying that's how they made the bulk of their sales. Wal-mart's shopper demographic is generally made up of people who can't or won't run up credit cards or have the money to make big purchases all at once. I'm sure they lost out on a lot of revenue this year because of their policy change.

Gives me hope that some stores are re-establishing their layaway and probably in turn taken away some of WalMart business, so who knows. If it hits their pockets too much..maybe so, but apparently they were already losing money.

What is lay-a-way? Maybe it's what we call Lay-By.
