  • They have more to talk about. They also are less embarrassed to speak their thoughts.
  • Its genetics.....
  • This is not true. I think it's equal between both sexes. Maybe you have still yet to meet talkative men. I know men who talks a mile a minute lol

As soon as you said "I think", you'd announced you were about to ingratiate us with a guess proffered in ignorance, rather than a fact of any kind. And sure enough...
  • The latest comprehensive study says that this belief is a myth. http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=3348076 Men and women talk about the same amount.

That's bull put out by a feminist interest. Women use 2 to 3 times as many words. Who gives you people the idea you can just make "facts" up anyway? Women BLATHER is what they do. They talk and talk, and when they get home, they call the woman they just spent hours talking nonstop to in person, on the phone and talk some more!!!! And that makes sense to them. It makes a man wrinkle his face like he bit a lemon. Most men only say anything at all if they need to. If you've been meeting talkative men, youve been meeting effeminate men. And you can thank yourselves for that problem, because you've all been demanding that guys be "sensitive" and share their "feelings" and tell what they're thinking and all that CRAP you dont even really want!! But you woosed a lot of guys in the last 30 years! And it isnt natural. (Theyre just doing it because youve made them think they have to if they want to get laid!) It's all your own fault. And I cant even imagine why you think it'd be better if there were no differences in gender anymore. Jesus Christ! You want us in skirts???? Do you WANT men to sit arranging flowers, going "Oh my god! Oh my god!" ?? ....Yuck!

You're the one blathering on! Lol!
  • Ok...Maybe that's true but I guess they just show it in movies....But that's why I guess people believe that.....
  • AUSTIN, Texas—Refuting the popular stereotype that females talk more than men, researchers at The University of Texas at Austin have found women and men both use an average of 16,000 words each day. The psychology researchers have published their findings in "Are Women Really More Talkative Than Men?" in the July issue of Science. For more than a decade, researchers have claimed that women use far more words each day than men. One set of numbers that is commonly tossed around is that women use 20,000 words per day compared to only 7,000 for men. "These findings have been reported widely by national media and have entered the cultural mainstream," James W. Pennebaker, chair of the Psychology Department and co-author of the study, said. "Although many people believe the stereotypes of females as talkative and males as reticent, there is no large-scale study that systematically has recorded the natural conversations of large groups of people for extended period of time." For eight years, the psychology researchers have developed a method for recording natural language using the electronically activated recorder (EAR). The unobtrusive digital voice recorder tracks people's interactions, including their conversations. The researchers analyzed the transcripts of almost 400 university students in the United States and Mexico whose daily interactions were recorded between 1998 and 2004. The research participants could not control the EAR, which automatically records for 30 seconds every 12.5 minutes, and did not know when the device was on. Matthias Mehl, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Arizona in Tucson, is the lead author of the study. In 2004, he earned a doctor's degree in psychology from The University of Texas at Austin where he conducted the research with Pennebaker, Richard Slatcher and Nairán Ramírez-Esparza. http://tinyurl.com/2xypxa

Are these the same people who posted a "finding" that the climate is actually COOLING? HUH?
  • This is generalizing!
  • I don't see this as generally true. My wife talks quite a bit, but I have several male friends that will jaw your ear off. My wife probably uses 90% more words than I do a day (I prefer to shut up and listen). This has more to do with personality than gender.
  • From John McKee, "3 tips to improve your executive presence" - 1. Men think to talk. Women talk to think. When genders are working together it can sound like a personal relationship on occasion. Women asking the guys why they don’t participate in a discussion but then leave the meeting and have a bunch of ideas; or men asking the gals why they take so long to make a point. The way our brains are wired, according to recent research out of UC at Berkley really makes a difference in our processing. Women are more prone to thinking aloud and using that to come to a position while men go radio silent while they are noodling inside before making a statement. If you’re a woman in a male dominated environment, don’t go processing aloud - it can frustrate the men who just want an answer. If your a man in a female dominated environment, don’t give the appearance that you’ve shutdown by processing internally without telling those around you what you’re thinking.
