  • I am excited for you and will help with any questions. I am assuming that you are in the US? Each State is responsible for the State Exam for licensing in that state. They have information on the web under the state you are in and (usually) Occupational Licensing sub category Real Estate. The requirements for classes and testing is available to you there. My advice would be to check out the real estate course book from your library. Read the first half of the book and take all of the quizzes and tests. This is just a taste of the information necessary for taking the State exams. If you are still in pursuit, contact your local community college or your favorite Real Estate office to see who is giving the course for pre-licensing. Prudential is a good start they seem to have alot of education courses. The required courses prior to taking the State Exam are similar and all have the necessary content. Work with your budget and your time to choose which is better for you. The same books are used in the classroom as in local seminar courses. Consider which field of study within Property you are interested in (commercial, residential, management etc). The industry would certainly welcome your personal investment in a college or university education so I don't want to deter you but, the study for taking the exam to receive your license can be done outside of that commitment. Once you have completed the courses, and passed the course exams you will take that completion certificate to the State examining location and sit for the State Exam. You will have to be employed by a Broker in your area and then join your local Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. Other costs will be the MLS (web info listing service), pay a lockbox fee, pay for advertising your client listings and sometimes, depending on the Broker you work for, an office support fee. Your sales will provide the commission which is split between your Broker, the brand (id you have one that would be the Caldwell Banker or the Prudential or the Remax type offices). You can do this, and the industry needs good people like you so Good luck and let the rest of us help you if we can. Sincerely, dot donato, VA Realtor
