  • Because people who WATCH the news networks spend so much time on Anna Nicole Smith.
  • Because apparently no one "cares" about those topics. Duh! (At least unless they are weird like us.)
  • WE RE REALITY
  • They only give what people watch and want to hear, pretty sad huh.
  • As for your question- We live in a fast food society - where everthing is coated with fat and sugar - even the news, I am not a huge fan. I would love to know what the top stories in other parts of the world were - There should be a news channel that covers the top stories from a dozen or so places around the world, and the other breaking stories - no matter where they may be.
  • To keep the general populace in the dark about what is really going on. In other words, to prevent panic.
  • Because for a very long time now, news has been about entertainment, not reality. Statistically, crime rates have declined over the last 30 years and yet coverage of crime has skyrocketed. No, we don't need to talk about how the loss of Anna Nicole Smith has affected the world. But death, scandal, fear, and tales of idiocy reel in viewers, which generates tidy profits for the broadcaster from commercial advertisements.
  • Because there are many many people who live for that kind of stuff...the same people who voraciously read/listen to/admire anything about Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan...the ones who go out to buy the same clothes that celebrities do, because that makes them feel "closer" to their idols..if there weren't an audience for that, there would be no coverage of it. It is not the networks at fault here..it's us.
  • When they cover such subjects, the ratings go up. When the ratings go up, so do their profits. The bigger question is why we tune in to such "news" more than more important issues.
