  • Being of African heritage means exactly that: the person is of African heritage, whether one parent, both parents or all four grandparents are of African heritage. A person can choose to self-identify as being of African heritage, even if they bi-racial (your term "mixed race.") The term "African-American" identify Black people who are of African heritage, while the "American" part of "African-American" is their nationality.
