  • I knew a girl from New York, whose family used a huge fireplace with logs to heat the whole house, my late maternal grandparents used coal furnaces in their early years and their house was always warm
  • I prefer forced air, because it heats the house up more rapidly. Most houses here in NE Vermont have several forms of heating, though. I've seen one or two homes that use both a forced air furnace and a boiler with radiant heat. There are some communities in Siberia that use a central hot water plant to heat everyone's homes, which is super efficient. But one small town had it's plant shut down in the dead of winter, though, and it was a major disaster with arctic temperatures and no one with heat. So, I suppose it all depends on where you live, the size of your home, and what heating resources are most affordable.
