This sounds like racism to me, if it were the other way around there would be an outcry. She should report them to a manager.

No one should be harassed secause of their race. It doesn't matter which race is picking on who. It's not okay. She needs to speak to her boss, or whoever she feels most comfortable talking to and get this stopped. Otherwise this will continue until it goes too far. There should be policies in place for harassment and retaliation (if it comes to that). I suggest she talk to her boss, ASAP.

It's called verbal harrassment, and could be deemed sexual harrassment if sexual comments were exchanged. Nevertheless, if an employer does not do something to quell the situation they could very well put themselves and the company in a legal bind. I would speak to a supervisor about the situation and give them an opportunity to stop the harrassment before consulting an attorney.

I think that the white employee should say something to the black employees along the lines of grow up. Why is the harassment taking place? Why hasn't a manager gotten involved, if it's gotten to the point where someone is willing to give up their job?

She should tell these people exactly what she thinks adn tell them to go to hell. Then she should keep accurate records and sue the ship out of them and the company for assumably doing nothing. These people must be stopped.

I think that if the office is aware of it, and management is not dealing with it, then either the office should deal with it, or she should be allowed to go.

She needs to hire a lawyer, that's harassment, and if it's been reported to management and the company hasn't done anything then they are liable.

People shall say "stand up to them!", "fight them!" Sorry, folks, that is not practical. If she does, she fights them and all of their friends. I have seen this sort of thing escalate to include vandalism of the target's car, intimidating the target in the workplace and when the target walks to his/her car, and have heard of beatings outside the office. Racial discord is NOT something to play with. I am referring to ALL racial discord, not just "black on white" or "white on black". The only way to stop this is for the management to step in or for the rest of the employees to band together and say "enough!". If the management will not step in and there is no other way to stop it, then she has to decide if the bullying is something she can tolerate and, if not, leave. Document every communication with the management and/or Human Resources. Get it in writing. Frankly, if it was myself who had to make that choice, then I would choose to seek legal council.

If it is a racially or sexually motivated verbal assault, the white employee should docuement dates/times/comments, then go directly to management and say (in a nice way), that they either resolve the issue in a reasonable manner, or she will own the company after talking to her lawyer. If it is non racial or sexual and just office bullying, then she needs to document dates/times/comments, and then go to management and say that either they resolve the hostile work place situation in a reasonable manner, or she will own the company after talking to her lawyer.
