  • You tell us, I have heard of people having problems with LDS members. People just have something against our religion or standards. They never would give me the time of day to explain it in a calm manor so I never could get a good answer.
  • There is a fascinating book about philosophy and human nature called "the Star-Bellied Sneetches" by Dr Seuss. I believe that book explains it rather well. As does this minister's sermon: http://www.uulongview.com/sermons/bellies_with_stars.html
  • The big difference is the Mormons feel that Jesus has already returned a second time and that shortly after his death on the cross, he appeared to people in the Americas.
  • The thing that stuck in my mind was when a Mormon 'bible' study turned up their belief that Jesus was the BROTHER of Satan. That makes their Jesus a different person entirely from the one of the Bible. I don't worship my landscaper Jesus, either.
  • I think all churches are just community social clubs. There's no tangible proof, or even circumstantial evidence that would stand up in traffic court, nothing stronger than hearsay that any event in any bible actually happened. The Ten Commandments chiseled in stone, twice, would be at least a tangible item in advancing the cause of religion. Where could a person see one of those stones? Just do what feels right to you.
  • There is nothing wrong with Mormons. They are good people. The reason some parents make a big deal about them is there beliefs are differient. The LDS beliefs are not biblical or Christian. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Christian+vs+Mormon+beliefs&aq=f&oq=
  • I don't think Mormons do believe in the same God. Mainstream Christians believe that God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1) The LDS teach that God was born on a planet that was there before he was. Christians believe that God does not change. (Malachi 3:6) The LDS teach that God used to be a man. The LDS teaches that people can becomes Gods. They teach that there are millions of Gods. Christianity teaches that there is only one God. In the 45th chapter of Isaiah alone God declares ten times that he is the only God, there is no other. In Isaiah 43:10 God says there was no God before him and there will be no Gods after him. The LDS teaches that you must believe in Joseph Smith to enter the Celestial Kingdom. The Bible of Christianity says, There is no other name given (except the name of Jesus) by which men may be saved. There is salvation in no other name. The LDS teaches that people must earn their way into heaven. Christianity teaches that we are saved by grace, through faith, and this not of ourselves lest any man should boast. There are many more differences. So I don't see how anyone could say we worship the same God. Paul warned that if anyone brings a different gospel than the one he presented they would be eternally condemned. With all these differences it is obvious that Joseph Smith preached an entirely different gospel.
  • Oh, it's all about the my god is bigger than yours and my religion better than yours thing
  • They believe in a different God than Christians believe. some parents are afraid that their children will get in a relationship with a member and will become a member themselves. then the parents wont see their children again. they will fear the worst about that organization. how could there be a different God than the christian God? after all the christian God is the one and only God. there are no other Gods. So, then, members believe the christians are lost and on the wrong track. their beliefs are the only beliefs. of course all the other religions are off track as well. they believe in multiple wives in heaven. that is an inkling of what they believe here on the planet's surface. the woman is of a lower order and not equal to a man, as we believe the christian to be. what parent would want that for their daughter. or even their son.
  • there is the thing about Mormons having secret meetings, while christian churches are relatively public. and the thing about white pajamas. it is some kind of ceremonial clothing that is worn underneath everyday clothing. its a sure indicator that someone convinced the children to do that. then there is the multiple wives issue. and the illegal communes sheilded by the LDS name. there is a lot happening with in the LDS to give any uninformed person cause for alarm if one of their kids is thinking of joining up. usually it is some kind of love connection that draws them into the church. that is my opinion. its not for me.
  • Silly silly people. There is only one GOD period. all these big rivers, little creeks and streams all lead to the ocean. God does not care how you come just get there!
  • The only reason I can think of why a parent might make a big deal about mormon friends is that mormons are notorious for converting younger people. They are a minority religious branch of christianity like Jehovah's witness and are discriminated more frequently. Most of all they are very strict about many things and who wants their kid to have to live by more irrational rules. I actually like a lot about the mormons, like how they take care of their own and discourage unhealthy habits. I wouldn't say there is anything more wrong with them than any other branch of christianity. I'm not a christian, but many christians will tell you that Joseph Smith was a false prophet, but who cares I mean all of the christian profits are full of crap along with all of the Islamic prophets.
  • Traditions DIE HARD! Older people have been brought up with the biases of their day - just as different ones exist today. The Mormons were not understood back in the 19th Century. Many of parents and grandparents today, ar no doubt, actually descendants from the many tens of 1000's who greatly persecuted the Mormons back inthe 19th century. Further, you have to realize that many decades ago, there was little communication between parties. Not only did each keep to itself, but distance [and the prime Mormon settlements were up in the Rockies of the West] and isolation prevented much contact. Mormons were seen as 'outsiders'. Telephones, TV's, and particularly Internet have now begun to break down these physical barriers that separated people. But for the older generation, olf beleifs and personal vieews and family traditions, whether right or wrong, die hard. Pride prevents people from admitting they were wrong, or their parents were wrong, etc.
  • Same God. Different beliefs ABOUT him. And I can't tell you why we are considered so different FROM Christians; we ARE Christians. Only explanation I can see is they are afraid we might be right, and the thought scares the whey out of them.
  • Mormons do not believe in a God But many Gods that are the father of another God.
  • religion is control, God is a race of beings of pure energy .in the writing in the bible God said you shall have no Gods before thee a admission there are other Gods.sheeple need religion to have an answer to the unknown. mankind write the books to serve their objective in control.
  • Of the series of questions that you asked I'm going to limit myself to this one: >why are they concidered so different then christians?< The Bible is not the real source of authority for LDS teaching, since they also have a number of other documents which contradict it and which they follow above the Bible teachings. The "Christ" which Mormons mention is most definitely not the Lord Jesus Christ mentioned in the Bible. While Mormons certainly use Jesus' name, they do not follow the Jesus which Christians have always followed. In addition to the different scriptures, source of authority, and different Christ as mentioned above there are other additional major differences between the LDS teaching and Christianity. * Different definition of God * Different definition of man * Belief in many gods (polytheism) verses the one true God of the Bible and Christianity (monotheism) * Different definition of the 'trinity' which is radically different to the Christian/Biblical concept * Denial of the Virgin Birth of Christ * Radically different doctrine of Salvation, including denial of the blood atonement and belief in an incomplete atonement. * Different Eschatology (end times) * Radically different doctrine of the Fall into sin * Radically different History * Different attitude toward 'Race'. Most of these doctrines are essential and central to the Christian faith and so the LDS church does not have the right to call its followers Christian, as they do not adhere to Christian doctrine but to their own. One ought not to doubt their sincerity in believing what they do, it just is not Christian and ought not to be called so. (source = http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Are_Mormons_Christians)
  • Do they believe in the same God of the Bible? Indiana JF answered that very well. How about the passage in Micah that says "He hath shown thee oh man, what is GOOD and what it is that the Lord requires of thee, but to do justly and love mercy, and walk humbly with thy God." Someone please correct me if I have misquoted this. I'm not a good Bible student. The mormons I have seen are not doing "justly" every time they put the interest of their own over everyone else. They certainly weren't loving mercy when they castrated people in the 1800's for their imagined transgressions. AND THEY ARE CERTAINLY NOT WALKING HUMBLY WITH THEIR GOD, with all their arrogance and plans for taking over politically. They say they are not doing this? They're lying.
  • Well, for one thing, they believe they will be taking over the country politically. And they've gotten further than most people would believe, if only from the background. Shadow government, I think is the term. And because they believe they are "chosen" by God to do this, that excludes all the other religions. Maybe that's one reason why parents (who understand this) are reluctant to let their children become involved. Another is, most young people (as I did, when I was young) believe they have all the knowledge they need to make their own decisions about joining them. But the older you get, you realize the fallacy of believing you EVER have enough information about anything- especially about a group with such sinister intentions.
