A female president could act as her own first lady or name another first lady and her husband would then be " the first gentleman". I don't believe it will ever happen in the USA. Chelsea Clinton took over the First Lady's duties when Hillary Rodham Clinton was sworn in as senator from New York.

I like the way this question is phrased - when , not if, a woman becomes President. When a woman becomes President, there will be so many precedent setting events that I think that her husband's title will be one of the last things that the White House will be worried about. I like the suggestion of 'First Gentleman', but I suppose the official protocol folks will have the final word. No doubt the press and other media will coin their own title, as will the other political party or parties, the one(s) the President does not belong to. Will the First Gentleman host official dinners? Change the china? Host tea parties? Present televised tours? Come up with catchy slogans ( Just say YOH!) ? First partners have a very busy life. BTW, I suppose there would be a 'First Lady', if the first female President were half of a 'same gender' couple. --- re :comments - the question called for a speculative answer - That's what I gave. The USAmerican Constitution doesn't explicitly exclude people from the Office of President based on sexual orientation, does it? Who are 'they' that wouldn't let this happen? I thought the President of the USA was elected by the people, not chosen by some 'backroom boys.' Or isn't your democracy as free and open as you want the rest of the world to believe?

I believe the term would be "First Gentleman." At least that is the way they said it on Commander in Chief.
-
It may be a long time before we find out. Even if Hilary does become the first female president, we would not refer to Bill Clinton as either the first man or first gentleman because as a past president he would still retain the right to be refered to as President Clinton...
-
Yes, or Premier Gentleman sounds ok

Mr.President, assuming the the female President will be Hillary Clinton - past presidents are still referred to as president. It will make answering the phone in the Clinton household a little more interesting.
-
When a woman becomes president, her husband title and he should be addressed as first gentleman , since a male president wife is addressed as first lady. if a new tradition is established at our next president election this is a very good question that all americans should consider.

Cardboard cut out.

I believe so, but in Bill Clinton's case he is also titled former president. This would produce a conflict of titles! It's anyone's guess how it would work out.
-
Yes
-
I think that sounds about right, or just the "first man" lol.
-
That could be very well the case. I somehow do not believe a female will ever become president while being married. Not that I do not believe they could but rather I feel that a woman would do a much better job running a country without a husband. I think in the deep minds of the people they will think the husband would be too involved and may influence the female into being too indecisive.

Well the wife gets stuck with "lady" so the husband should have to endure "gentleman."
